hi ppl, im new at this group, i just have to seek advice from u guys in choosing a car. Im planning to get an SUV to replace my CRV, i need to get 1 within this month/ i already sold the CRV...now im having a hard time choosing the best. Requirements:diesel, price:within 1.0-1.5m and service center should be availble in butuan or cagayan de oro city. my mom wants a fortuner but im kinda hesitant coz i rly want a difrent car, nobody in my province has a captiva & considering the car space, i prefer the alterra but over all packaging i love the CAPTIVA crdi 4x2, ill be using the car only in the province - Surigao City(& im a girl), i like a big and macho car and something i can dress up. so can anybody help me decide? theres 1 concern on the captiva though, is the performance good? any captiva owners here?
plz help me decidethanx guys
the santa is nice as well, but the thing is ung service center nya is knda farther than my city and i think mas madaling mdressup ung captiva than the sta. fe, and ung +points sa captiva is u can avail a 3rd row seat, even if mjo masikip its ok kc for short trips lang naman. and the fortuner also HAS a 3rd row seat...mron ba sa sta. fe? thanx![]()
Sis beachaholic, I am not sure of the performance of the Captiva since am really skeptic with American cars! I have a Dodge Durango and when it comes to replacing parts, hirap na hirap ang dealer kumuha. Most of the time we have to order the parts online para lang magawa tapos matagal pa ang shipment!
I almost got a Trailblazer pero dahil nga sa experience ko sa Durango, I decided not to get na lang...
We can only give you our comments and suggestions, but in the end, ikaw pa rin ang may huling disisyon?
Choose wisely na lang po...![]()

Is it a good choice? I think so.Captiva was one of my considerations being it a CRDI. Kaya lang hindi natuloy kasi hindi sya full 7 seater. Bagay na bagay sa girl ang captiva lalo na yung red color. Kaso since it's a choice between the alterra and fort, mas madadalian ka sa fort pag dressing up ang usapan. May off road driving invloved ba? If so, then hindi bagay ang Captiva for your usage. The 2 other choices would be practical. Important to consider din ang availability of parts, I don't want to second guess Chevrolet. But safer ka sa Toyota and Isuzu pag dating sa parts. Test drive mo sila lahat to get a better feel. Take pics na rin w/ you inside the cockpit para makita mo saan ka malakas ang dating.

I think there are 3rd row seats available for the Captiva... around P28K+
At P1.29M its also much more affordable than the Santa Fe.
About setting it up, the Captiva looks nice to setup.
Example of a Captiva dressed up...
Or you can try to duplicate the look of the original S3X Concept the Captiva was based on...
beachaholic, I think the best thing you can do is test drive the Alterra, Santa Fe and Captiva and see which one is best for you.
You might want to check out the Everest too.
Captiva VCDi(CRDi) 4x2 P1.29M
Santa Fe CRDi 4X2 P1.528M
Alterra 4X2 P1.47M-P1.54M
Everest 4x2 P1.227M-P1.282M

beachaholic, are u sure there are service centers in cdo and butuan? i know cdo has a sales center but i dont think we have a service center na. butuan? i dont think so. samot!
a service center does not always assure you of parts and service. my friend who owns a couple of chevrolet cars and vans has a problem getting some parts. shes based in cebu pa and cebu has a service center in banilad. she had to order (paid the whole amount na as per company policy daw) a certain part that took the dealer 6mos to bring in. they had to import it daw coz not even the manila dealers have it. dito pa kaya sa mindanao?
kung ako lang, i would stay away from captiva for practicality.
fortuners are common and u may not like it. the good thing about it is..... it will have a lot of aftermarket parts and accessories.
if you are doing long distance travelling, i would get a very reliable vehicle. mahirap na masiraan. babae ka pa naman. delikado kaayo inday. where are you based? cdo? bxu?
I own a 6 year old chevy venture. Had to replace a radiator hose in 2006. Not available from Manila dealers and importers. Isipin mo simpleng rad hose lang wala pa.Thanks to sir Otep of tsikot for pointing me to some stores that were able to make one for me.
Last year washer fluid tank srung a leak. No parts available. For importation again.
Based on my experience with them, I'd say look for another brand.
The Chevy Venture and the Lumina sold here were made in China by Shanghai GM. Those models were really meant for the Chinese market.
GM models for the RP were really supposed to come from GM Thailand, thats our regional (ASEAN) plant. (Most Chinese models are usually for the Chinese market, I guess they couldn't supply spare parts for GMPh... low priority?)
The Captiva like the Optra and Aveo sedan sold here is sourced from GM Thailand.
I believe Toyota had the same problem with the Japan sourced Echo hatchback, the parts were either expensive or still had to be ordered.

Me, I'd say go for the captiva. Why, mas maganda siyang tingnan kaysa sa fort and it is way ahead of the fort in terms of technology. Pero try to be sure kung merong service center diyan sa inyo.
Although the Fortuner would be a practical choice for you, parts and all, I would not recommend for you being that you are a lady in the provinces eh medyo hot car ang Fortuner.
Kung may service center dyan ang Chevy, I think parts would be fine. Check out mo rin Hyundai and Ford. But if you got the bucks and willing to forego the CRDi engine, then the Outlander is for you.
I'd go for the Santa Fe.
There's a Hyundai in CDO along Gusa Highway.
thanx for the input guys, im kinda confused wat to get, in terms of serivce center sa chevy, mitsubishi bxu cud cater the chevy naman coz the same owner chevy cebu and mitsubishi bxu....at least that what they said when i tokd to them. i dont like the looks of the everest much, so ill consider the santa fe na rin... i think wala na ako mpili sa lahat hehehe
ill go to cebu nalang for the weekend to check some other cars. thank you so much guys, nag iisip pa ako to get an suv or sedan nlang kaya..
since you are based there and i guess u will do some travelling, then i guess you shouldnt get a car. mas limited kasi ang mapupuntahan ng cars in my opinion. korean cars have improved a lot. i own a kia carnival at wala akong reklamo nito. i frequent bxu since my wife is from there. im based in cdo. my wife uses the van most of the time.
my choice will always be a pick up for its versatility pero hindi kasi pang babae ito. an suv would be fine but i would buy 1 that has good aftersales service. aftersales service would include parts needed when repairs come.
cebu? mag sinulog ka didto madam?![]()
From the top of my mind I wouldnt advise the Captiva based on the experiences of Chevy owners plus resale and parts will pretty much tie you down to a few sources only.
the Hyundai Sta. Fe seems to be a better option in terms of quality, performance and resale. Or a Toyota Fortuner/Ford Everest. Another sturdy choice would be the Montero Sport; too bad it doesnt have the 3rd seat option.
