Unity also comes into my mind my aunt whos working as a nurse has a lot of Coworkers formerly MD here some of them took the state board but never made it so stayed as a nurse ..earning a decent living in the US is better than just waiting for nothing...one thing that caught my attention was when she said that Indian and African nationality tend to help each other financially and, professionally to help them make it tru there exams even if it took them 2-3 times before passing they may have made it tru as a General pratice MD..well at least they get to keep the tittle even if it took them a few times.....as they say GET REAL

according sa source ko hindi nurse ang work niya sa USA kungdi caregiver.
not that i look down at caregivers, i just wanna set things straight is caregiver nga ang work.

    that being said.

that is his choice, there's nothing we can do but speculate, and maybes

    maybe, maybe and maybe.

also sabi ng source ko he cannot practice medicine, only american citizens are allowed to practice.

    wala akong naintindihan!!!!:D

after 5 year e di uwi siya dito magtayo ng clinic/hospital at siyempre dont forget the mb class di ba idol hens

our family doctor nung late 80s or early 90s, after getting married to a fellow doctor, migrated to the US and practiced there.

one of my schoolmates also is practicing medicine in the US. i know he took the US medical boards here in the philippines. di ko lang alam kung by internet or by letter/mail.

I know of at least three pinoy doctors who are practicing their profession in states ... they are all academically excellent (one is also board topnotcher) ... other than passing medical board and a sponsor hospital, i don't know what else is required to practice medicine in states ... but i'm sure those guys are doing it!

Dr. Jacinto may be opting to get to U.S. fast due to financial reasons but he have a good chance ending up practicing medicine there with his credentials. He only have to undergo the process.

Looking from a different perspective, this exodus might just be nature's way of arresting our population explosion. Less doctors => higher death rate. Whether that's good news or bad, you be the judge.

    Glennster: thank you.

personal experience ko lang - nag-OFW/study abroad ang parents ko at great personal sacrifice...but because of this sacrifice i have the opportunities i have now - and i am eternally grateful. to have someone come on here and brand them some sort of traitor to their country is just insulting.

what's more, my mom went home to work on a project - sinisiraan daw siya doon and one person even tried to get her fired because she came in as a director and created jealousy (masakit pa, she considered these people friends from way back).

again - who are any of us to tell anyone how to live their lives or give their children the opportunities? i love my parents for what they have given me and i would do the same thing for my son in a heartbeat.

hens and yebo - i know what it's like guys...i salute you.

hanggang dito na lang - i will abide by the rules of this site and not attack or disrespect anyone although i feel pretty disrespected myself.

But the process is really long and difficult.

Wala naman akong balak magdoctor sa America. Na-share ko lang.

sir hens...15 yrs ba? hehehehe mukhang mangyayari din sa akin yan....maliliit pa ang mga anak ko eh...hindi pa sapat ang ipon ko para sa kanilang future...I've tried to have a business there, twice... itinigil lang muna namin dahil ang nagpapalugi sa amin eh yung mga naiinggit na iba nating kababayan....talking about crab mentality....

yung ibang kasama ko dito, more than half of their lives are spent outside our country, yung dating manager ko dito na pinoy sa pag-aabroad na tumanda....dahil lahat nang kapatid pati na rin pamilya nila eh sa kanya nakasandal....eh mga managers at supervisors pa yung mga yon sa kani-kanilang respective fields, sa kanya nangutang para magkaroon nang sariling bahay at lupa...sabi nya, they have their opportunities long time ago, masyado lang daw proud dahil kesyo senior accountant na raw yung isa, ayaw nyang mag-umpisa ulit sa simula....yung mga ganong bagay ba.....tapos nung magkapamilya na saka nya naisip na mas praktikal nga yata na magtrabaho sya sa labas...but it is a bit late na....wala nang demand para sa kanya......

sabi nga nung mga seniors na mga kasama ko dito eh 'your degree or title cannot ensure your success, you cannot even buy a macdonald with it'.....hehehehe

How you deal with other people, how you adapt to change, how you set your goals and work towards them.

Different strokes for different folks.

    Keep on posting!

hi guys...i haven'n been here for a million days and my god this is a good discussion....well i'll say i'm proud to be a registered nurse who graduated from California University State system here in US..i'm proud of what Dr. Jacinto did..it maybe not righteous but still he is banking on his future and his families future. i know a lot of physician's who immigrated here in US.... like a chief of hospital who landed as respiratory care practitioner, a chief of surgery who landed as surgical tech, an ob-gyn specialist who landed as registered nurse, an anesthesiologist who landed as real state broker.. for couple of years... immigrating to the US these people were shock about the life that is goin on here, they were once on top of the food chain and suddenly they are at the bottom. they tried hard...very hard to over come this but hey...what the heck it paid off at the end...here in US we dont have a topnotcher or whatsoever in challenging the board examination weather nursing, medicine, cosmetology or a barber as long as you pass the exam..that would be the bomb. Registered Nurses earns a lot if you are MASIPAG as what my mom always tell me..you can earn as high as 150,000 to 180,000 thousand dollars but working that much is an over kill give yourself a break sometime...i work 2 jobs 6 days a week 12 to 16 hours a day and 1 day off during sundays and sometimes on call just to have a good future and retirement...being a physician is being a doctor right guys...here in US being a doctor is just like any ordinary individual who's trying to make a living...becoming a doctor here is difficult..first its too expensive to go to medical school and by the time you're done you have a gazillion debt to pay afterwards... you have to take the USMLE first to the third step before you can start your residency and worst part is you will compete with hundreds of applicants who is applying for residency in a training hospital...not all hospital here in US is a training hospital...the hospital i work with is a 400 hundred bed capacity and is not a training facility... but we have two ED doctors and 1 house physician 24 hours a day and an administrative nurse supervisor who ran the hospital...now for the case of a foreign grad physician no matter what level are you in weather a new grad or the chief of staff still you will start at the very beginning which is passing the USMLE...your experience in a foreign country will not be credited...now when you are done with your residency and fellowship you need to associate your self with medical groups, establishing a solo practice will be a joke...healthcare here is a big issue and being a provider is not easy...for what Dr. Jacinto did...i admired him a lot for doing what's the best for him and for his family
    thanks

I left our beloved country for personal, economic and political reasons. Even if having a family owned calibration business that's not doing so bad, I still opted to go out. We took advantage of my wife being a nurse and getting green cards. This way, we're thinking that if worst comes to worst, we have "somewhere" to go to.

I manage one branch of our shops there and guess what kind of work I do now....IMHO, we do almost the same amount of work here and there but what you can buy, afford and all has a big difference.

A doctor [pedia] of one of the nurses here started out as a medical transcriptionist making good money. She said, I can not do the same thing I do here if I were in the Philippines. Now, she's got NCLEX so she's ready to be a nurse meaning more of a good life. After which she plans to take up the medical boards for her to be able to practice.

Mahirap dito kung tutuusin, specially with two kids. But we're hanging on in the hopes of getting a "better future" in life......

    no flames pls......

All I can say is that im so damn proud of a lot of our dear posters! Special kudos to those who show constraint and patiendce where normally we'd have a flames left and right. You know who you are! Good Job!

For me its not a matter of black or white. It's not because you're locally based or abroad. Heck that's just a matter of geography. To each his own. No one man can be tasked with saving our country if he does not want to. Each person has the right to choose. To judge if a person is wrong or right is simply wrong, as each of us has a story to tell and situations to take care of. Some people choose to stay here, again, they have their own reasons....

For me, it's pointless to argue kung sarado na isip ng tao. I just shared my piece and that's it. I just hope that we Filipinos can have better unity and stay away from "crab mentality".

    yup...very well said mga bossing.....

siguro kung napakayaman ko lang ay hindi ako aalis nang pinas, mas masarap pa rin dyan... yun nga lang we have our own priorities, to each his own ika nga....and for me, my childrens future is at the forefront....

I still want to see the fruit of my hardship.... but it is just me, we do have different capabilities and at the same time luck on our side. what works for me may not works for others....kanya kanyang diskarte ika nga......

    just saying my piece anyway...
