Here's a sample of an actual recorded clip from several nights ago. Please note that the artifacts wasn't there in the original video. It somehow got into the video either during the conversion in Movie Maker or while publishing it on YouTube.

I'm considering getting the rear view mirror type para di masyadong nakaka-distract. Any reviews?

    OJ88,
    Thanks! Ganda pala kuha.

I just ordered 2 units - one is the same as thread starter's unit and the other is like this:

I'm going to keep one a sell the other. I'm more inclined toward the rear view mirror type para di masyadong cluttered windshield ko and pwede pihitin ang camera if needed like when I'm being apprehended by a kotong cop. Kaso wala itong GPS and shock sensor. Hmmmm... ano sa tingin nyo? Hirap mag-decide.

Decided to retain the X3000 not because it performs better than the rear view mirror. May pros and cons pareho.

Di ba nagcha-charge yung sa inyo while driving? I'm having battery drain issue din and it's causing the last footage taken to get damaged pag pinatay ko ang makina na drained ang battery.

^That would require a lot of memory space. And yung battery life nya di maglalast for the whole day IMO. Delikado rin pag sa arawan ka nagpark kasi naiinitan talaga sya plus it's running so additional heat pa, baka masunog. Kung saglit lang say 30 mins to an hour pwede pa. An hour of driving kasi, nakalagay sa file size around 4500MB+, just imagine kung whole day.

ah, i see. perhaps there's a product like this that has a sensor? when the sensors engage, it shoots for a certain amount of time?

Yes. Nasa menu if you want to record just Ch1 (front), Ch2 (rear) or both. You can also disable the audio/mic recording.

    Manyak mode. :D

    Opened up the GPS antenna.

it's not just an antenna but whole GPS module na pala.

    Oj88,
I'm thinking of installing a switch to cut off the power when not in use or better yet a 5v normally open relay para automatic.

Yup. It's an active GPS receiver. It needs 5V power from the DVR and it sends back GPS coordinates using serial communications (ie. NMEA 0183 protocol). The memory backup battery is a dead giveaway. The memory serves to store ephemeris data and whatnot.

No I haven't tinkered with it. Like you, I also temporarily disconnected the GPS module.

I've thought of using a relay as well, one which can be triggered by the DVR's backlight circuitry or the power LED. The thing is, I'm not sure if the 3.7V LiIon/LiPoly battery will be enough to energize the 5V relay. In that regard, I think that a solid state approach is preferred (smaller package and lower power draw). I just haven't found the time to design the circuit yet.

But do tell if you make any developments.

My idea is simply to cut off a power wire from the DVR to the GPS module, connect it to a 5v triggered normally open relay and connect the relay power terminal to the 5v supply of the DVR (or a separate 5v USB car charger). so only whenever I the engine is running magkakaroon ng contact ang relay to supply power to the GPS.

Problem lang is I don't have a relay and ayaw kong pumunta ng Raon just to buy one.

Ako dinidisconnect ko yung connector ng GPS everytime I park. Kaya namang sungkitin ng daliri ko hehe. Mas hassle kasi pag naubusan ng batt yung DVR, narereset yung time and date.

I want the most elegant solution kasi. Call me maarte.. :D

I'd want the GPS module to power up and down with the DVR, not the ignition key. So I can still move it temporarily to another car with the GPS module intact and fully functional, running off the DVR battery. Kaya it's taking me a while to think it through.
