Just took a picture of my GPS console while driving along Ortigas Avenue. This is intended to be launched in 6 months time and aimed to be priced almost half that of n95. It has a large screen with touchscreen interface and MP3 player. It has voice and routing capability.

There's already a GPS road map for Metro Manila (only) by MapKing Asia. I've been using this for more than a year now using my Pocket PC.

Garmin also have a base map for the Philippines with the major highways visible.

Katsikoters, just wanna ask if the GPS is already available here in our country? Kasi dito sa US the said item is very much helpful in locating places. It will lead you from your point of origin to the point of your destination. Just type the exact address. So kahit bago ka sa lugar, theres no way na maliligaw ka. They are optional accessory when you buy a brand new vehicle or you can also buy portable ones where u can install it in any type of vehicles you like. I could say na affordable din sila, meron $200+ yung cheapest.
I hope magkaroon na din tayo nito dito kung wala pa.

GPS service is available (since it is based on many geostationary satellites orbiting the planet) but depends on your device/software if they have a map for the Philippines.

For now, I doubt if you can find a GPS navigation system as an option to a new car. Best you can do is a portable unit like the TomTom or even Nokia N95 or 6110-Navigator. A bit more pricey but if you already have a laptop computer, you can get a GPS antenna and software.

you might want to check if the GPS nav system you are getting would have maps for the philippines. If the unit (in the USA) costs less than $200, I suggest just buy it there. In the very least, you have more options there than here.

GH, meron na bang Philippine map ang TomTom? Would be great news if it does. TomTom is a great software. Plus, you can use the maps on different platforms - standalone units, PDA's and cellphones use the same map files. As easy as copy/paste.

archangel_1911 - If you're planning to buy a US unit to use in the Philippines, make sure that it has an available Philippine map. The unit should accept additional maps or at least replace the one built-in, as some cheaper satnav units won't allow you to do that.

Here's the existing thread on local satnavs:
