    thanks
if your gonna use PNP kits for H4 assembly just stick to your good old halogens . please read post #1 for in depth explanations

The hid bulb is has no filament, it has two electrodes in which creates an arc when applied with a high voltage source. a capsule resides in the middle which are filled with hallide salts, the kind of hallide salts determines the color temperature of the bulb. if you will try to notice upon turning off the light and quickly turning it on, upon turn on, the produce is red~orange in color and would last for about a few millisecond. this is bad for the bulb and would shorten its life.

As for the ballast, its does nothing more but to establish a huge voltage to strike the bulb for the arc to form, after forming the arc, a constant current and voltage is applied roughly 85Vrms to maintain the arc. It can hurt the ballast too because of the hot re-strike.

As for the electrical system, imagine 22~24,000 Volts is being cycled on and off your electrical wirings, not to mention the initial current it draws. HID ballast normally operates on 35W during normal operation, but during start up, it draws quite a lot.
    Thanks! This is great info.

But how about flashing from low to high repeatedly? Does the same principle apply to that?

if you have a bixenon projector, its okay. the bulb stays fixed, the only thing that is moving is the cut off shield. this cut off shield retracts down, to give way for additional lighting above cut off. you can cycle this on and off, the only thing that can go wrong is frying the solenoid of your projectors hahaha!

just as long as the bulb is not switched on and off your bulb and ballast will do just fine

okay this has been debated for quite so long in other forums. HID was designed to run at 35W. that is one of its advantages, lower power consumption and high lumen rating.
of course there are some people, including me, that cant get enough of bright, intense, CONTROLLED lighting. running 50W ballast will result in a much more higher bulb temperatures. As tested by others, running a 35W china bulb with 50W ballast produce so much heat that it can damage the chrome in the reflector bowl of projectors, much as with semi sealed projectors.
so running 50W ballast with china bulbs has risks of damaging the projector. What other people do is they use OEM philips bulbs. that produce much lower temperatures than running with china bulbs but ofcourse much higher than running standard 35W bulb.
as far as boosting ballasts power is concerned, some mercedes benzes have a smart ballast in which it boost the ballast output power to 38W when traveling at high speeds, this increases visibility about 100m as i have read somewhere. its a very conservative increase and would not damage the projectors

    NH,

on average, how much is the 50w ballast?

o, nighthawk, thanks for sharing them what you taught me nung nagpa-retrofit ako sa yo a few months ago. i'm glad na maganda ang respond ng mga tsikoteers sa thread mo.

^^ Oo nga pala. thanks NH. looking forward to meet you personally.

Btw, do you sell HID kits alone?

Pa PM price if ever. Thanks.
