i think h7 yung low beam ng montero, im not so sure about this one cause i dont own a montero
, but for the high beam just stick to your halogens, upgrading it to HID is just a waste of money. Its not like your gonna turn on your high beam for a long period of time. HID are not meant to be flashed on or off. kaya nga yung True bixenon setup uses a fixed bulb with a movable solenoid cut off shield for the high beam. that means the light stays on while cycling from low to high beam.

Thanks sir
..Actually we were just concerned about its price..May nakita kasi dad ko 4k pesos lang na HID, yun pala pang foglamps lang hehe..

for montero kasi it has a low beam projector and a high beam reflector. if your using single reflector halogen headlamp which commonly uses H4 bulbs. the bixenon projector is definitely a plus factor since you wont loose your high beams. while with dual reflector halogen lights (separate hi and low) a single xenon projector will suffice. but others prefer to slap in a bixenon in there for the more functional high beam of the bixenon.

January 21st, 2010 11:47 AM #25Good thing I got 4300k's for the wagon. Dad warned me that anything above 4300k sucks at bad weather. I think it's ok enough, without the "sabog" effect. Now I want projectors, though

Will flashing the HIDs from high to low beam (or from off to "pass") bust the system? Thanks in advance.
By the way, this is a nice thread. I hope it gets stickied.

it all boils down to the preference ng would-be owner of the headlamps. Others who dont usually use high beams can live with the single xenon projector even though their orig reflector is H4, while others who has dual reflectors prefer to have a bixenon projector in the low beam and leave the high beam as is. others naman prefer quad projector setups, in which both low and high beam part of the dual reflector lamp will be retrofitted with xenon projectors. mga adik na yun talaga sa ilaw.
ako my old setup is only a single xenon projector from lexus LS430, which is considered as the best top class single xenon projector ever made, boasting a light coverage of 10 lanes or so. my headlamps where H4 lang, but i didnt give a damn about high beams na since the low beams are veryvery adequate na, i even killed my projector foglights which has h3 hid since it has no use na. haha
but now i want a quad projector setup na.haha

technically
. flashing a xenon bulb on and off will hurt both the bulbs and the ballast. not to mention your electrical system.
The hid bulb is has no filament, it has two electrodes in which creates an arc when applied with a high voltage source. a capsule resides in the middle which are filled with hallide salts, the kind of hallide salts determines the color temperature of the bulb. if you will try to notice upon turning off the light and quickly turning it on, upon turn on, the produce is red~orange in color and would last for about a few millisecond. this is bad for the bulb and would shorten its life.
As for the ballast, its does nothing more but to establish a huge voltage to strike the bulb for the arc to form, after forming the arc, a constant current and voltage is applied roughly 85Vrms to maintain the arc. It can hurt the ballast too because of the hot re-strike.
As for the electrical system, imagine 22~24,000 Volts is being cycled on and off your electrical wirings, not to mention the initial current it draws. HID ballast normally operates on 35W during normal operation, but during start up, it draws quite a lot.

To add regarding color bands and color flickers...
this is what you see on a xenon projector retrofitted vehicle (below the cut off or within the range of cut off).
color band against the road
(colors are blue, cyan, magenta, violet, purple) but the bulb color is 4300k OEM philips and the output looks like these on the drivers seat
l
low beam
high beam (notice, the low beam part stays there) additional light above the cut off without sacrificing foreground visibility. since traditional hi/low systems are ON one at a time. that means when high beam is switched ON, the low beam will turn OFF.
functionality and aesthetics in 1 package. 8000k bulbs be damned! LOL!
