Unless maiipon mo yang pera or mapunta sa magandang investment, i say go for it.

I agree. Kapag magipon man ng pera, let us say P15,000 a month(equivalent ng ammortization), it will take him 5 to 6 years to be able to get 1. By that time, mas mahal na ang kotse na gusto niya and his money has been losing it's value. If he really needs a car, in which on another thread he mentioned that he now has a family, by all means buy one. Kaya and afford niya naman. Congrats by the way to the TS!
Imagine if you are working in Makati tapos sa Bulacan ka pa manggagaling, mahina na 3 hrs na byahe tapos ilang sakay pa gagawin mo. That's 6hrs back and forth. That's 6hrs back and forth. I will trade expenses for convenience and time saved.
if TS really needs a car, but has more modest income.. why not get a more affordable pre-owned car?
if he waits a year.. let's say, he has 60K for down payment for a new car.. hold on to that, and add 15K a month.. after a year, he will have saved 240K. that's enough for a modest second hand car. wala pa siyang utang!
..problem with today's ... "i want a car! now!"
heh heh.
hey! na-sabi ko na pala ito, last year pa!

"bilmokonyon.. bilmokonyan, ha!"
and the bank warehouses are full of cars formerly owned by people who "needed a car.."

Mahirap magmaintain ng secondhand, but it'll still come out cheaper than going bnew. Just takes time and effort to look for the shops that offer your replacement parts for affordable prices.
If I couldn't afford bnew, I'd prefer to get an old secondhand car in cash.
And besides, a well-maintained old compact is still much better than a bnew subcompact. No hassle with insurance either (TPL lang). Di kailangan ipaservice sa casa.
If TS will consider a pre-owned, best to get from a close relative or friend. In this case, less of a risk & maintenance not
as bad. More expensive over all bnew, with insurance, PMS & amortization.
I am also currently on the same dilemma with TS,
earning 80k+ gross so net is 60k+ but planning to buy a secondhand car with 400 to 500k budget, but the current problem is I havent decide which model to buy
I'd get a 2009-2010 FD Civic 1.8S MT at that price. Respectable car, abundant parts outside, easy to maintain, fast, fairly efficient.
If you need an SUV, the Nissan X-Trail has really low resale value which is good for secondhand buyers like you.
Depende sa life style mo, pero for a normal Filipino a 60K net monthly salary is enough to buy a decent brand new small car (e.g. Mirage, Celerio, Vios) or AUV (e.g. Avanza, Ertiga). Yun nga lang, kung mas malaking car talaga ang gusto mo like big AUV (Innova, Crosswind) or SUV (Fortuner, Montero) 2nd lang talaga ang papasok sa budget mo.
doble doble

But lahat naman ng sasakyan bumibigay over time.
If there's anything I learned in buying secondhand cars, it's that they WILL break down, and it's more important that the replacement parts are easily available and that shops know how to fix your car.
