    i know but why? LOL

i mean it's an MPV. does it really have to be a ladder frame? pwede naman monocoque yan...

    isn't it a disadvantage that innova is a body-on-frame?

i think toyota ain't gonna make a specific platform just for the innova

if people want a toyota mpv na monocoque they can buy a toyota K platform car

^It wouldn't be financially wise for Toyota to develop a separate unibody platform just for the Innova, when it could just base it on the same basic platform as the Hilux and Fortuner. Though Toyota does have a unibody MPV called the Wish which is very popular in Taiwan, but only comes with a gas engine.

IMHO using a ladder frame for the Innova does have its benefits. The Innova is still a utility vehicle. The tough underpinnings mean longer lasting suspension components especially under heavy duty use, which Metro Manila traffic basically always is. Tackling poorly made or unpaved provincial roads with it also gives more peace of mind as compared to, say, our LWB Carnival.

From what I've read re: platforms, mahal sya gawin, that's why car companies will use the same platform for as many vehicles as they can if they think they will sell.

In the US, Toyota has a 7 seater minivan monocoque, the Sienna. It's based on the same platform as the Camry. It's much larger, and owing to the dismal fuel economy from its gasoline V6, it won't sell much here. Although I heard it now comes with a 4 banger.

The IMV platform is more profitable for Toyota because of the Innova. Other car companies with PPV platforms only came up with a pick-up and an SUV.

well, i find the MT / clutch of the older innova diesel, to be such a pleasure to use, that i don't mind too much that i have to drive the MT and not the AT.

well you can have tough suspension on a monocoque also. it's all about how tough you build the suspension bits for a monocoque vehicle

so it makes me wonder if innova would theoretically be better off as a monocoque. coz it's just being used as a family vehicle. nothing demanding at all that would require a ladder frame. it would make the innova lighter so have better fuel economy, better performance etc. and easier for the grandparents to get in/out of

but of course i understand the economics of shared platforms. but as a consumer i don't really care what makes good business sense for toyota LOL i mean they're already the #1 car maker. i just want a car that's optimized for the job that it's going to do i.e. not be overbuilt, or have a ladder frame that it may or may not need

    just thinking out lout

if a Toyota customer has high standard

he can ignore IMV platform cars and go for MC platform or K platform cars

no gun to the head naman
