Thank you everyone for your input! I was able to test-drive the BRV last week. It was alright. My main issue was that it was indeed narrower than the City. Not quite comfortable if 3 adults would sit at the second row (third row looks kinda cramped). Then I saw one BR-V on the road yesterday. It doesn't look as impressive as it did when i first saw it at the showroom. Hence, our vote as of today goes to City, unless we change our minds again.

My husband was also considering Vios or Altis. But I was intent on getting a Honda car because I really liked its performance compared to the other cars i've previously driven.

    Thanks guys!!

The BR-V is a compromise. Forget what reviewers are saying, it's a glorified mobilio on stilts. Raised the hood, changed lights, added roof rails and body cladding, voila instant 100K increase. Should be priced closer to 900K, but we see Honda being ambitious with pricing as usual. Did it with the HR-V too, that's a top seller in Australia, here it's just gathering dust.

2017 Altis is very good value, you get all the safety features across the range. Fuel efficiency isn't far from the Vios/City, around mid 8s to low 9s city driving plus its a bigger car overall. City's a good car but it's getting old and a facelift is coming soon.

The Vios is slightly more efficient than the Altis, but considering the huge power difference between the two, it's well worth it.

From my experience, Vios FC in city traffic:
    Light: 9.82 km/L
    Moderate: 8.69 km/L
    Heavy: 7.28 km/L

Data compiled from over 5,000 km of pure city driving.

Meanwhile, my Altis gets the ff. city FC:
    Light: 9.55 km/L
    Moderate: 8.426 km/L
    Heavy: 7.20 km/L

Data compiled from over 17,000 km of pure city driving.

On another note, one advantage of the City over the Altis is price. The City VX costs 908k while the Altis 1.6G CVT costs 990k even if the latter has fewer toys. The Altis 1.6V which has all the toys of the City VX costs 1.074M, putting it squarely against the Civic 1.8E which I think is a better car overall.

The City is a better car than the Vios in almost every way - looks better, drives better, has more toys, has more space, etc.

The City also has more toys and is slightly cheaper than the Altis. But the Altis looks better, has more space, more respectable presence, more comfortable ride, is quieter, and is ultimately a class higher (compact vs subcompact).

Also had the option between the City and Altis before. Went with the Altis with no regrets 2 years after.

For 1M, I’d take a used Forester XT than any of those small under-powered SUV wannabees. Power, handling, comfort plus cargo space like no other for anything new under 2M except a brand new Forester XT.

For 800k, you can get a used XV or non-turbo Forester.

I'd take the BRV over the Rush. More power and more civilized than the ladder frame, rear driven Rush. More practical than the HRV too, having more space and a 3rd row. The BRV engine has been in use in the City and Jazz for over a decade now and more recently also in the Mobilio and with a turbocharged form in the Civic. I believe that says something about the engine's reliability. I don't know how it behaves in the BRV, but I have driven the latest Jazz and it was really good.

If you're willing to go 2nd hand, I'd suggest the 2013-2017 Santa Fe. Lower resale value than Japanese PPVs of the same vintage. Thrifty diesel engine with loads of power and a sedan like ride. Get the newest your budget allows. At 1.2M, that would probably be 2015-2016. If your father is used to Expedition power, I'm sure he'll love it.

We met several sellers who were in a hurry to sell their cars for different reasons. The cheapest we encountered was 600k.

Maybe BRV is a more practical choice than HRV. I will look into it as well. Thanks for all the suggestions! On a side note, we previously bought a car based on recommendations i got from this forum, and we are very happy about our purchase. So thanks a lot!

Going back, is mazda cx3 also a good option?

A CX5 would be a better family vehicle. The CX3 is even smaller inside than the HRV.

Join SFX group in Facebook and there are a few who sell their 3-4 year old XVs or Foresters at a good price.

Hello everyone, newbie here. I'm also in the market for a used SUV or PPV in the P600k range. Any other suggestion of Facebook groups of used cars for sale? I've checked a few, pero ang daming junk/spam posts.
