In addition it sips fuel fast... it's doesn't represent common rail technology like isuzu's 3.O powerful yet economical engine!

Ako magkakaroon na din ng Car and it took me months of test drive and research.

Before I decided on what model to buy, inisip ko talaga kung ano gusto ko sa isang car and kung saan ko talaga gagamitin.

So ganoon din ang gawin mo.

If you are not after the space but are after the looks, go fo Fortuner.
maliit kasi ang Fort compared to Alterra pero mas-pogi si Fort.

Pero kung engine reliability naman ang habol mo and fuel efficiency, go for Alterra. Although nagkaroon nga ng maraming problema ang Trooper but that was Trooper. For now, wala pa namang mga complaints against Alterra.

Alterra is being hated on this forum dahil sa itsura lang. I admit, awkward talaga itsura niya. Pero the engine is being praised - though less powerful compared to the 3.0 Everest and 2.2 Sta Fe, pero I think this is due to the fact that it was intended to be more fuel efficient and to comply with Euro 3 emission.

So yan lang mapapayo ko syo brod. Isip ng maigi ano ba talaga habol mo sa car.

    HTH.

I think the best would be Fortuner..The Alterra's only good feature is the audio system...You can't sacrifice a good car just for an audio system...

P.S.But the other option is a hyundai Santa Fe!!!

    nah. Wrong perception.

The engine is great too. Though not the most powerful in the class.
From the threads here, wala pang engine problems sa Alterra. Though some of the users complain of LCD malfunction.

I saw a loaded Sta Fe and napansin ko may tendency palang bumukaka ang rear wheels pag mabigat ang mga dala. Di kasi sya LSD eh.

That has nothing to do with LSD but with the fact that the Santa Fe has IRS and the Alterra and Fortuner use solid axle. Any IRS vehicle has the same thing happen when you load it and have the suspension squat because of the weight of the load.

    Sir, salamat sa correction.

Yeah. na-observe ko yon sa isang SF when I saw it in Makati.
Pero I know this IRS has a better ride than solid axle. Yon nga lang they have the tendency to "bukaka" when loaded katulad ng sa CRVs.

Baliktad ata.

That's really how independent suspensions move. When you jack them up, they become sakang. It's because of the point where the suspension pivots from.

A solid axle is a stick between two wheels. Lift one wheel up and the other wheel will lean in the same direction.

audio system: Alterra, and only if you opt for the fancy audio system

in other words... this is an easy one. Fortuner.
I bet to disagree that Alterra's only good feature is the sound system.

    >Engine is VERY GOOD, POWERFUL YET ECONOMICAL.
If you want more power you have a power button to add additional horses.
*Better than Fortuner (underpower and gas guzzler, weight to power ratio)

    >Ride, smoother than the Fortuner - have a test drive on both SUVs on EDSA you'll feel the difference

    >Spacious (though interiors are not too classy)

    >Rigidity, Alterra's suspension are tight and tough. Truck like design but give you a smoother ride than fortuner.

    >Sound system ofcourse is better

    >I admit Fortuner looks better.

    Oo nga eh.

Angtagtag naman. Di lang talaga pogi si Alterra pero performance wise and reliability-wise ok na ok.

Ung mga taong hate ang Alterra did not even test drive an Alterra I guess. Or did not take a 2nd look at it.

Well mid size SUV's MUST LOOK GOOD! to begin with. SUV's are not practical in the first place. People who buy SUV's look for presence and performance. The Alterra doesnt have any presence. It is not interesting. Id get the old montero over the Alterra. I have driven both and both performs well. If you can get presence and performance why settle for just just performance?

    ALTERRA ako!

SUV also means the vehicle must be tough as a rock. The "S" in the SUV means sports. Sa sports kasi hindi LOOKS ang tinitignan. But the toughness and right balace of power..

baby pa kasi ang fortuner sa diesel engine segment. so kailangan munang mag-mature. hehe

I beg to disagree. Truck-based SUV's were historically workhorses.

I drive an SUV and the reason why I got it was for practicality, all weather ability, off-road ability, and because it fits my intended usage. I couldn't care less if it's one of the brands with the lowest resale values in the market today or if it doesn't have as much bling as it's later models. In fact I chose the 'unang-labas' look because I find it to be a classic (not clear headlamps, amber signal lamps, etc.).

But that's just me. Madami din talagang bumibili ng SUV's to turn it into a fashion accessory.
