Thanks.

super clueless on audio-set up here...

any suggestions on what audio set-up I can do for my altis 1.8v? I'm always on long drives so I just need one where I can enjoy the clarity and beat of the music; Not looking for the trade show type of set-up if you know what i mean. I want to keep the stock head unit but it sucks that I have to use cdr king's fm transmitter; tamad akong magburn ng cd e hehe..

budget is hopefully below 10-15k if kailangan na kailangan, maybe stretched to 20k.

Lastly, which shop should I go?

    thanks guys

    *d_rookie12:

I recently upgraded to Pioneer AVH-1450DVD HU (2-DIN) and had the 4 doors installed with sound deadening sheets. Very satisfied with sound quality even with stock speakers so decided to skip speaker upgrade na muna.

    Pioneer AVH-1450DVD (2-DIN)= P10,500 with 2 Yr Wty
    Sound Deadening (2-layer, 4 doors) = P3,000

    Benefit of sound deadening:
    - Reduce road noise
    - Reduce vibration, squeaks, and rattles
    - Hear more music, conversation, mobile phone and navigation
    - Reduce noise level up to 3dB (which means your stereo sound twice as loud)

I also both a 32GB Sandisk Cruzer Fit USB for my MP3 collection. Costs P950. Cruzer Fit USB Flash Drive by SanDisk

Somebody told me that upgrading speakers without a dedicated Amp is useless. You would need an Amp to properly drive the speakers at its best level.

Here are shops that you can inquire with:

Mickey's Auto Sound - Santolan, Pasig City Welcome to Mickeys Autosound
Candy Shop - Banawe Ave, QC
Jet Car - Banawe Ave, QC
Araneta Car Accessories - Araneta Ave, QC
    Winterpine - Araneta Ave, QC

Sir jhnkvn, I am a newbie po. I have a few questions for my setup of my Revo.

1, Can I achieve an SQ setup using an all entry level JBL components (JBL 2-way Separates GTO 608C, JBL GT5-12 sub-woofer in a sealed box & JBL GT5 - A604 4 channel amplifier)?

    2. I am also installing a 2 din DVD receiver. Which one will you choose, a 7 in. Pioneer AVH 4450BT or a 6.1 inch Kenwood DDX-4038?

    3. OA and sayang lang ba pera if I will do deadening of the 5 doors, rear pillars, ceiling and flooring?

    4. What is the cheapest but best wiring kit can I have? Estimated price?

    5. Any other additional suggestions or comments?

Thanks and more power to you.

Wow, you're pretty lucky I came across your post. It's been months since my last post in Tsikot.

    1. You can achieve any level of SQ as long as you tune your system properly. Tuning is still the 90% while equipment's 10% roughly speaking in SQ criteria.

    2. I'll go for the Pioneer due to its Sonic Centre Control which acts much like a crude time alignment feature.

    3. It's too OA. I would only go for deadening the front doors where you'll be placing your separates and also deaden the trunk lid if you plan on throwing the subwoofer there back-firing.

    4. I actually have no idea so I can't comment on it. Don't go for generic but the typical Firland wiring kits are ideal.

TEAC's now into car ICE?! Well, that's news for me. I have no idea on reviews for the TEAC speakers but it should be better. TEAC's a global corporation, after all. They're pretty known before dapat.. yun time pa ng mga cassette tape and stuff :D

It would even be better (as in easier to tune). One of the hallmarks of a properly tuned SQ is bass that is upfront but can't be localized. If you put a subwoofer on the back and back-firing, it's actually harder to tune it as the trunk cabin acts as a sound bouncer (think shouting inside a cave..). For what it's worth, one of the legends of the industry Karl Zausmer had a 15 inch subwoofer at his front passenger area after extensive modifications. It was nuts but he's a legend now isn't he?

Sir I don't have a trunk as I have a Toyota Revo. What would you think is the best sub, box and location for this setup? Thanks again.

No such thing as better. Place it anywhere that you can fit it really. Bass waves are omni-directional. In other words, its sound waves does not propagate in a uniform one-directional way but rather is present "all-around". This is why they refer to properly tuned bass in a SQ system as one that you cannot localize - be it either in the passenger foot rest or at the trunk.

Really depends on your budget. Sa totoo lang, nothing really "stands out" when it comes to head units. The pricer ones would get you more features such as a better screen (for 2DIN units) with more resolution, better tuning features, bluetooth, etc.

There's a lot of shops which you can purchase units from and have them installed. But most people simply do a trip to car mecca, Banawe. This is because the concentration of shops there make it a breeze to negotiate thanks to competition. Notable ones who specialize in car audio installations are Ginza, Candyshop, Jetcar, C3, and Maspro. But installation of a head unit is more straightforward than not, chances are, all shops in Banawe could do it.

An excellent head unit goes first: secondhand 9887s go for >10k.
    Set aside 10k for speakers.
Set aside 5k for deadening the front doors.
And the rest of the 5k for wiring and installation.

Now your challenge left is to find somebody who's experienced in tuning the 9887. To be more frank than not, not everybody and not every car audio shop knows how to use the full potential of the 9887. This is why upscale car audio shops like Mickeys, JC Car Audio, BluPrint/Musico exists ;) aside from their installation works, what you pay for is their tuning capabilities.
