I usually put the car to N + handbreak when stuck in traffic. Nilalagay ko lang sa P when the car is being park. Safety feature siguro ng Fort. Hindi nahuhugot ang susi pag wala sa P.

Saka kung stop and go ang traffic, ang layo ng P to D. For me, D to N is safer and much convenient.

That is what I do too, in heavy traffic (N and brake/handbrake). Normal traffic, just step on the brake....

Good feature that you cannot pullout the key unless it is in P.... Why? For AT, you normally cannot/(and should not) start the vehicle when it is gear'ed (gear is engaged), and so, it will become a puzzle to the driver why the engine won't fire.....

If in a very unfortunate event that, the car in front of you suddenly went backward fast (thinking its on D), would you still be liable of the damage? I think unfair naman yun in a traffic/stop situation, you give just enough room for a small error, and not the usual 1-2 car length pag hi-way. Plus its a driver's error din, and not yours (other car).

For matic cars that i've driven, you can switch off the engine while in "N", but you can't pull out the key, you have to put it back to "P", then that's the time you can pull the key.

Amen to that bro.... You should only be able to pull out the key,- in P....

However, I still own a 5-year old vehicle (very popular here in the Philippines), where I can pull out the key even when gear'ed... Deym!

BTT: N to move the vehicle on short distance (towing)

In our old L200, you can remove the key even when the car is running. Once, I was thrashing the truck in Tanay, with the key on the dash and the windows open. After a hard corner, zoom goes the key out the window! Buti sa damo lang napunta and not down the mountain [emoji23]

If you can remove the key of an A/T equipped vehicle it simply means the car lost this safety feature. Some cars won't allow you to lock your doors with the key in the ignition if there was an input from the driver door courtesy switch. Most Hondas you can't lock the door without using the key or RKE transmitter. All military tactical vehicles now are A/T equipped and don't need a key( imagine being under attack by the enemy and you can't find the key) just like aircraft and ships.

According to casa mechanics, you can still tow a car or an SUV with AT in neutral but to a maximum distance of 15km. only. Beyond this there is a possibility that you damage your transmission. AT neutral is not fully disengaged not like the manual transmission.

Tanong ko kapag nagbrake ka sa downhill, tapos naiset mo sa park then release the brake, may movement play pa ba bago mag lock yung wheels or dapat once you set the lever to P ay wala nang movement na mangyayari sa oto regardless of the slopes?

what's the use of "N" in a AT?
