I mean probably we will indeed get something from this but is it worth it - versus the 10 billion pesos we "invest" on this plus the lost jobs/salary/productivity because of holiday and traffic? I remember during the 90s when the Philippines hosted this, the government was also saying that we would benefit from this and that it was an opportunity to showcase our country. Now, did we turn those opportunity into something beneficial? What were the direct results of that event? AFAIK, we are still a third world country. And some people are even saying that arguably the Philippines was better during those times than now.

Also what were the benefits that other host countries got from this? Yearly, different countries host APEC. I heard, the list is up to 2022. Are there figures or facts that will relate progress ( or benefit vs expenditure as a host country) to being an APEC host country?

Or is it just mandatory for a member country to host APEC periodically?
The goverment keep on bragging all that we are to benefit in 1-10 years time i heard sa news last night. That's one great BULLSHIT to cover up the mess they have done. I can't see the benefit as we've hosted it in 1996 and look at our poverty & hunger level, it continues to increase. Besides, APEC summit are done annually, so why would the benefit be only now? Is it because we're hosting? It's another BS to ssume such cause if we follow that priciple of host will benefit , then the succeeding host will also benefit, so mag equalize lang.

There's this one Apec committee head who happens to be the brother of a former colleague who justify the benefit as 10000 delegates arriving and will be spending to generate income as tourist. Let's do the math, the goverment spends 10B divide it by 10,000 equals 100,000. Are each to spend that amount just to recover the 10B , no profit yet. That does not include PAL's loss of $18.7M already on cancellation & rebooking alone. Wala pa dyan yung other business at kay Jaun dela Cruz.

As this was suppose economic benefit summit, how come every trip ng goverment official specially the president, he will brag bringing home x amount of investments. Eh if they can bring in the investment, who need's apec hosting? Again, there are much better options it's just this administration is too dumb to pick the worst!

i know the general sentiment is that APEC will be good for us...and the government is selling the APEC preparations as a 10B investment. Two things:

-- as sir macsd said, i seriously doubt if the 10B has factored in the losses that businesses, workers, etc incurred because of the APEC preparations

-- if we are to consider the APEC as an investment, then like any other investment, proper accounting must be made so that we will know, in numerical terms, whether it was a worthwhile investment or not. And one way to maximize profits is to minimize cost -- not only in the preparations but also in the "collateral damage" done.

i'm not saying we should stop hosting APEC summits, but we should remain critical of the preparations made, costs incurred, identify what can be improved, etc so the next time we'll do better. i think it's wrong to consider APEC(or more accurately, its effects) as some sort of natural disaster, where we can't do anything but to just grin and bear it. Kahit naman supertyphoon, we do make preparations to mitigate the costs/damage.

I realize the questions that we have raised here can be answered by the "benefit" of 1996 APEC when we first hosted it. History is just repeating itself.

Sa mga whiners, so what are you gonna do about it? Go and block the APEC land in EDSA. Stop the convoys. [emoji23] or you can probably go and hold a protest in front of the 21 Leaders. Tamang-tama meron sila group pictorial later.

Andyan na yan. Ano pang magagawa? It's not like people didn't know they will close major roads, security will be extremely tight.

Don't tell me you all didn't expect traffic will be crazy after closing several major roads. Common sense na lang yan.

As for the people na traffic. Too bad that's life. Life is not fair. Live with it.

Sir, are you saying we shouldn't whine at all whenever we see something wrong? By that logic there'd be no point in being a democracy(broken as it is), let's just follow what "great leader" tells us.

Parang nangako MMDA na they will provide shuttle from the coastal terminal to the BPOs in the MOA area. How true is this? Meron naman kaya?

Na traffic ka na diba? So what are you gonna do about the inconvenience this summit created? Summit is at its tail end pwede ka pa humabol Kung meron ka plano gawin to make the state remove all the Barriers for the special lane and open all roads. Pati no fly zone baka pwede mo paalis na rin

some people are just venting, sir. Granted some reactions are over the top, they're just trying to keep their sanity. Better here in the forums/social media than doing something really stupid out on the streets(not talking about the golf guy btw. that guy's cool)

Di ko na papatulan pa yang very sensible post mo at siguradong hahaba pa at magmumukhang away bata. Yes, im on my way to work because i cant afford a one day leave with no pay. Im now stuck along coastal.

Btt: Sana lang totoo yung pangako ng MMDA na shuttle from coastal mall to MOA para naman di ako mabasa ng ulan.

Some people rant about anything and everything the government does. If that's their way of keeping their sanity, oras na sigurong magpatingin sa doktor.

Well, this is a sign of a healthy forum. I think shadow is just playing the role of the devil's advocate. There's nothing wrong but to make one engaged on critical thinking. My thoughts.
