Toyota to sell hybrids in RP

    Inquirer
Last updated 06:46am (Mla time) 09/26/2007
TUGUEGARAO CITY--Environment-friendly vehicles will soon be traveling on Philippine roads.
Yukio Nishikawa, managing officer of Toyota Motor Corp. based in Japan, said two Prius electric-gas hybrid cars were recently brought to the Philippines for testing in local road and traffic conditions prior to their being sold in the country.
He said Toyota has been mass producing Prius electric-gas hybrid cars and developing fuel cell vehicles for the past years but these are not yet commercially available in the Philippines.
Nishikawa was in Cagayan recently to launch the company's 170-million yen reforestation project in Peñablanca town.
Aside from being fuel efficient, hybrid cars are built with advanced technology, he said.
Company records showed Prius sold 54,000 units in 2004 and 108,000 units in 2005 worldwide, mostly in Japan.

Here's the first look of the new Prius that will soon be displayed at this year's Detroit Motor Show in January 11.

Is it a facelift, or a new generation? Or possibly be followed up by another hybrid car which is the Lexus HS?

In the time of cheap gas prices, would an obviously expensive hybrid car have a fraction of the success as it's previous model. This is compared to other "normal" gas fueled cars on the market of the same size & capacity.

Hybrid car sales plummeted in November
    http://www.upi.com/Business_News/200...9381230922441/
DETROIT, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- U.S. hybrid car sales plummeted in November, falling faster than sales of conventional, gasoline-powered cars, an industry research group said.

Just as automakers were scrambling to turn their production over to smaller cars after gasoline prices spiked in the summer, the falling price of gasoline threatens to dampen new initiatives.

Autodata said hybrid gas and electric car sales fell 53 percent in November from a year ago, compared with a 37 decline in vehicle sales overall, the Financial Times reported Friday.
