    My thoughts:

    1. It's good that you decided to shoulder the maintenance of the car so your parents don't have to worry about that as well. It'll help you learn how to budget your allowance too.

    2. If you're really intent on shouldering maintenance, then do it properly as opposed to cutting costs for mods. It's stupid to buy mods unless you're so financially liquid that you don't have to save several months of your allowance for impractical upgrades.

    3. It's ok not to go to the casa, as long as you know what needs to be done to your car.

    4. Casa maintenance is not 7-10k. It's closer to 3-5k if you just use mineral oil. If you bring the car to a Helix Service Center, it'll be about 2k for a complete PMS, including low-end mineral oil.

    5. ZR engines aren't prone to sludging. Don't get it confused with the older ZZ engines. You can follow the km intervals as opposed to months, this will help you save on unnecessarily frequent PMS.

Since Toyota maintenance is so cheap, I recommend keeping the car casa-maintained, even just until the 3-year warranty is up. But if you don't mind losing the warranty, just find a good service center to get it done outside.

Was surprised with my FC today. I travelled back from Mariveles, Bataan to Manila, and the MID showed 12.9 km/L. However, when I filled up, the actual FC was 14.81 km/L. With the same route and driving style, I only get 12-14 km/L with the Vios 1.3.

That mid is from the vios. Lol

Did you reset the MID after the oil change? Its calculations are probably based on the break in period.

Ok sana if casa will allow me to bring my own oil and then warranty will be kept.

Dont worry too much about toyota engine. Its one of the most reliable ones. As long as you change oil every 5k. Ask your service adviser if pwede every 4mo(if 5k hadnt been reached) with the conventional oil.

I reset my MID every fill-up, so that I can directly compare its accuracy compared to the FT method.

    My last fillups:

    1. MID 12.5 km/L, actual 12.0 km/L
    2. MID 8.8 km/L, actual 8.47 km/L
    3. MID 12.5 km/L, actual 12.91 km/L

It's mostly accurate +/- a few tenths, except for the most recent fillup where it was 2 km/L off.

Nothing beats the MID readout of my edsa crawl. Okay its not a corolla but its a 1.5 liter engine paired to a cvt. Edsa traffic suxxors big time.

    3zz-fe-58-000-km.jpg

Hello tsikoteers, here's my 3ZZ-FE engine from my 9th gen Altis with 58,000km on the clock. Oil and filter change done at home every 5,000km with Toyota Fully Synthetic oil. No engine flush whatsoever, just drain and refill. Mostly metro manila traffic. Valve cover was removed to replace the old and hardened valve cover rubber gasket. Spark plugs are replaced every 10,000km. Air filter is cleaned with compressed air everytime I change oil and replaced at 30,000km. She's now at 86,000km and still purring like a kitten. Just sharing. Salamat.

Somewhat wasteful. Unless the sparkplugs and fully synthetic oils are free.

Fully synthetic can last longer than 5k. Change your interval to 7500km.

Sparkplugs can be inspected. Throwing away a good set is rather like throwing money away.

Hope you changed your tranny oil.
