thanks for the input guys.

I have met with marfin kaninang hapos sa Asian Hospital area. Binili ko na lahat ng avanza stuff na wala pang owner. Got each item for 800.00. I have the following stuff for sale at the same price (800.00 per pc or set):
2 pcs rear bumper protector
2 sets of chrome door handles
Thanks marfin, it was nice meeting you in person. Have a safe trip. Isa na ako ang maghihintay sa iyong pagbalik (di pa nakakaalis, hinihintay na ang pag balik :D )
BTW, toink approched me last week at the parking area of Festival mall. Nice to meet you.

Hi,
First off, thanks for the warm welcome. Ang bilis pala mag-back log sa mga pages na babasahin sa thread na ito. I finish one page, and two or three new pages come in
Just wrapping up the day. After coming back from the test drive (Avanza J), here are some thoughts that I'd like to share and hopefully gather some feedback (location from Toyota Makati). It was a rainy Saturday morning. I didn't know if it was pure chance or luck...
- The Approach: First impression was on the door handle. Black as specified on the brochure. Sticks out like it was initially designed for (taxi)? Raised some eyebrows but no issue here, minor lang sa akin yan. Hopping on, it was not too high and easily accessible getting on/off.
- Setting up: First thing I do before I drive is set the mirrors. Rearview mirror was small, but that's ok, you can replace it with a bigger one, right? Issue ko was with the side-mirrors. I notice the right one offers a full view far back, but the left one was tilted offering only a view not more than three meters behind me (and all I can see was the headlights of the vehicle behind me). I thought of adjusting it but there seems to be a problem with the unit I used because it wouldn't tilt up.
- First impressions: There were new things that were not on the brochure -- 4-spoke steering wheel instead of 3-spoke, rear-window wiper, no center compartment covering the handbrake, and new SRS Airbags (DR side only). Nice. Door panels were basic, as printed: Not too finnicky that it wasn't "power", but it was clean, nicely installed (walang lukot), makinis and easy to clean. Sun visors were a little too cheesy, but all the same, can be improved with after-market parts. Btw, still no available parts to convert pawis-windows to "powered".
- The seats in the front row was ok, however on the 2nd and 3rd row, something was not quite right. Is it me or is it reminiscent of the FX? Parang manipis yung padding, I can almost feel the metal frame. Seats you like a commuter, seat straight with minimal recline. I really didn't notice but is the seats of the J similar to the G? Or mas malambot yung sa G? I couldn't compare, walang G unit kanina sa showroom.
- The starting run: after making ready, I threw the car into first gear and headed out. I'm more of a "instinct driver" rather than a technical one, not waiting for the redline to shift gears. Not sure if it was me, but I think I shifted to 2nd a little quicker than usual. Engine response was good, a little too good I think, parang galit na galit yung makina at 1st and second gear.
- Observations on suspension: Not I am not that picky on this area but I did notice that the suspension was a little too stiff, I think. I was expecting smooth recovery for a small people carrier. Good thing was it wasn't all that 'bouncy'. I checked with the parts counter for replacement springs thinking this could be improved, but they said that all that was available was the standard one for all Avanaza models, replacement lang daw. Ganito rin ba sa G? If it was standard for all models, I presume this is the same?
- The Ride: The route was just around the Toyota Makati block (Jupiter, right to Reposo then Buendia, then right again on Ayala). The SA said we couldn't go anywhere else because their insurance won't cover any damages outside the route. Offered a second chance, I took it and instead of turning right on Ayala, I took a right on Malugay. If you want to test your cars suspension, daan kayo sa Malugay: I think they intentionally left it in disrepair para sa road test ng suspension. Hitting holes between 10kmh to 15kmh, ramdam ko bawa't butas. My wife's impression of the ride: para kang nasa FX.
Don't get me wrong, this is not to put down the Avanza. This is a good choice for a "first car". I think I may be getting what I pay for when I get the J variant: a basic 'minivan' for the family and a good starting "family car". Not too fancy, practical lang. It will get you to your destination, although I am not too sure of passenger comfort on long drives. Could the ride on the G vary differently on a J?
I asked the SA if it would be better if I get the G over the J variant considering I am adding a number of features, and she said main thing you're getting is a bigger engine and the features. Wala namang "E" yung Avanza, so malaki talaga difference money wise kung features lang hahabulin kong matipid.
Over-all I found the test drive was ok. I did feel like the SA allowed the test drive para lang masabing na-test drive ko yung sasakyan. There was no incline where I can test the pull of the engine during a hang, not enough road to push the threshold of the 4th and 5th gear, and not really able to "abuse" the vehicle to find out how it really handles.
Good thing was that I was able to see how the Avanza "basically" handles. Not really bad, though not convincing enough to make the final decision. Medyo nahilo nga wife ko on that short ride and I can imagine my kids to experience the same if/when they ride it. My thinking was, para sa kanila ito so I have to think of their comfort instead of what I choose to live with.
Again, my motivating factors for getting the Avanza is budget, FC, and capacity -- factors that are not readily obvious sa test drive (well, budget is pretty much a no brainer). Resale value, I presume, is not too far from your average sedan so this is secondary fo me. Now one thought haunts me: this is a major decision for me because I am not sure when I can buy another car if we grow out of the Avanza so I have to make this count -- how long will it last? Can you share your thoughts on my perception of my test drive? Or was I just expecting too much?
Thanks in advance for your feedback.
