i like the CRDI of the Hyundai for power and torque,,, especially that there are glitches plauging the d4d of Toyota (refer to d4d woes thread), it may be newer but its not suited to our place.

for me, the hyundai CRDI is much better than the d4d.. because so far, no hyundai CRDI users had any problems with its commonrail, while the toyota innova's has alrrady very bad feedbacks about their D4D
ako, i'd go with starex. nothing about the engine. i'd just like the schoolbus space inside. hehehe... big family kasi kami.that would really save fuel money on our part rather than having 2 vehicles to transport us.
korean vehicles have gradually increased their reliability within the past few years. it's just that the dirty diesel we have that's making problems for the crdi engines being sold here. answer to that problem is biodiesel and more frequent changes of fuel filter![]()

Unlike toyota, yeah new technology nga engine nila pero kawawa initial buyers since they will be the one to suffer first since their technology is not yet tested especially sa pinas where diesel quality is not good. Yeah they can sort it out but dami muna suffer. I'm afraid na later on, they will issue a recall and it's going to be a big abala sa D4D owners. My friend use Seaoil " Bioexceed " sa Sorento nya and over 9K ODO never have problems. Baka the fact that Hyundai and Kia are using Bosch components/technology kaya good ang engines nila???
Infact it was mentioned sa ibang site that Sorento 2.5CRDi got a new technology upgrade. They call it VGT which stands for variable geometry turbo which enhaces Sorento 2.5 engine power from 140hp to 170hp. Di pa yan introduced sa pinas or even sa europe but in korea, it's already available. It's still with collaboration with Bosch company which as I have mentioned before, same company that pioneered this CRD technology.I think even BMW uses some components from bosch company for their CRDi that's why maski dito sa pinas, alang problem ang CRD engines ng BMW even though sabi nga ng iba na di maganda quality ng diesel.Originally Posted by butchokuy

Hyundai: Official 2006 World Cup Sponsor..... oops, off-topic yata! ^_^
this thread was started back in Feb.2005 when we didn't have much "actual" user experience yet. Now, it's almost the end of the year and checking out the other threads here at tsikot, you can conclude that Toyotas D4D has its own weakness - main supply pump failure (an average of maybe 12 per dealership?) and one guy even had his Innova's entire CRDI system replaced. I have yet to hear of a Sorrento who's CRDI system has failed . . . . now talk about legendary Toyota reliability.
I got an Innova D4D last May since I was out-voted by my Toyota loyalist family against getting a Sorrento. I just cross my fingers that I don't suffer the same fate with my D4D.

i just found out that hyundai already launched in the Philippines their VGT engine (1.5 DOHC CRDi Turbo Intercooler with Variable Geometry Turbocharger) in the new Hyundai Accent w/ Max Output (bhp/rpm) 114 / 4000 and Max Torque (Nm / rpm) 241 / 2000... quite pricey though for a Hyundai at 748k but definitely worth at the pumps at 20.40 km/ltr(manufacturer's data)... i say that this is quite a tempting ride during this time of skyrocketing fuel prices..Originally Posted by apexi_66

Epic how is your Innova D4D? did you ever experience the same problem as larshell?
This is just Bosh technology against JaPANIS Denso kaya sorry to all D4D owners < Sana pwede swap ng engine Fortuner to one use by Hyundai CRDI VGT. I'm a Pro Toyota kaso this D4D problem nakaka-inis. I think Toyota engines were not suitable for Diesels
just bought my 2006 starex last december, and honestly speaking, i am surprised by its performance (power, torque, low vibrations, fuel economy etc), and ease of driving. It is comparable to a 2 liter gasoline engine (minus the fuel consumption thing). I know this because I have a toyota camry. I made reservation for the Fortuner but backed out because of the negative review on the D4D engine, which is quite sensitive (daw) to the "dirty" diesel fuel that we have. So far, I do not have problems with my new car, and I was glad I bought this one, which is very spacious that my 3 kids can even play hide and seek..
