My main purpose is for my daily drive which is mostly city-driving. My route is just house to office and meetings in between, mon to sat, then Sundays church or mall, and dinner with family. So I was thinking that for the 6 days a week the Jimny would be truly functional for me. Even on Sunday drives, we have 2 kids that would fit nicely at the back seats and we seldom have cargo to load anyway it's just us doing our Sunday rounds. If we plan to go on trips with cargo space needed, then of course Jimny is out, we'll just use our old 2nd gen CRV 7 seater or Urvan Estate.

Before I decided to get the Jimny, my considerations were the CRV and Rav4. I went to see the new Rav4 but it was already big and not a compact SUV anymore. It has a wider and longer body which turned me off. As for the CRV, my sister who I work with got hers early and beat me to it so that kinda kills it for me not being the one to own one first in the family While the other pickup based SUVs are too impractical for me, big and bulky. My current daily driver is the 1st gen Xtrail 2.5L AWD, great suv but not very efficient FC at 5.7kpl at city driving. I'm somewhat tired of it just want brand new car for myself.
For family and city-driving use, I'd get a proper city car to be honest. You'd be sacrificing a lot of comfort and space for your family just to get the looks of this jimny. It's not for everyone and for the purposes you mentioned, I don't think it would suit you either. I'd hate to be at the receiving end of the wife's complaints once she gets to ride one for long.

For most people the jimny is a third-car kind of car.

    yespo.
the jimny is not for everyone.
even as it's priced similar to the altis.

buyers have something else in mind.

Not everyone would want a car for carpool. Occasional me-time can be precious & needed, esp now with all the depressing election news![emoji35]
Jimny...the perfect car & ready alibi for that alone getaway.[emoji106]

it's not rugged coz it's not diesel. gasoline cars are lame duck cars in the Philippines whether manila traffic or the Sierra Madre, kasi andami naman options eh Montero, MUX, Fort.

sa Japan lang patok yan coz hinde naman sila nag-di-diesel

The Suzuki Jimny is an alternative to a 2-door sports car like the Mazda MX-5 ... It's actually a good city car ... More practical to use in our environment ... More durable ... Count how many cars you see daily that have 1 or 2 passengers only ...

How can you even say that the Jimny gasoline engine is not rugged? It doesn't even have fancy direct injection, just bare bone basics and from the looks of it in the very spacious engine bay, it seems one you can repair in your own backyard. And your comparing that to the other diesels you mentioned that has common rail direction injection and complicated turbochargers, which would inevitably fail if you let it drink dirty diesel.

"The Jimny....Enormous amount of fun & will probably surprise a LOT of people....an extremely likeable vehicle w/ so many good points & few bad ones." -Andrew SP White, the god of overlanding & Cruiser faithful.

Admittedly am a BIG fan of the guy & did not anticipate the mutually shared views on this fun lil 4wheeler....Just reinforces the points on wishing one.[emoji106]....Sorry, OB.[emoji4]

    Thank you for sharing, doc![emoji106]

Not all 4 wheel drive vehicles are rugged. The CRV never claimed to be rugged as one that is designed for offroad. CRV is a softroader just like your sta. Fe.

I still know that the jimny is rugged that you can drive it in what others would consider not passable.

OB is an urbanite. FWD based AWDs aren't real 4WDs.[emoji4]

Yes exactly for our 3rd car to replace our Xtrail 2003 which I usually drive alone. For the family we have the 2nd gen crv 7 seater and an Urvan Estate. Cheers!

nowadays, ang rugged para sakin eh diesel na ppv based na lang doc

Pajeros, Land Cruisers, Patrols are not rugged coz it cost more than a house

    rugged criteria
    1. diesel
    2. cheap to maintain
    3. truck suspension
    4. workhorse

gasoline, kahit f150 raptor sa America I dont even consider rugged anymore. I've had a V6 Explorer, sigurado ko senyo hinde rugged ang engine ng Ford made in USA.

yan Jimny parang doom buggy or ATV lang na may bubong at aircon tingen ko dyan, recreational

but I would consider L300FBs, Mitsu Adventure, Isuzu Crosswind and Toyota Innova as rugged vehicles

The previous model defied naysayers for 2 decades. We know failure & longevity will never make a sensible pairing. The new 1 runs the same winning formula of basic simplicity + better & much more.... easy worry-free. It will continue to have & defy the same naysayers....Who cares? Purists here will get what I'm sayin'. Raised hands, please.[emoji4]
Sorry, OB, your oil burner bias & definitions of rugged are yours. Respected...Andrew SP White & a handful here have ours...please respect em, too.[emoji4]

Trav, maybe there are 2 kinds of rugged people

    Rugged realist and rugged optimist.

you guys want to make that car look rugged coz of the foreign first world reviews and so it becomes truth that it is rugged.

But thats only a 1.5 liter engine.
