After whittling it down to two choices, the Tucson 4x2 CRDI and the Impreza 2.0 R-Sport, my wife and I finally decided to get the Impreza. We were really considering the space that the Tucson offered, but what really tipped the scales for the Impreza was when we test drove the Tucson. I was quite disappointed that the ride wasn't so smooth. No offense to Tucson owners, but it feels somewhat matagtag. So, I had my financing approved and will hopefully pick up the Scooby early next week!

Not to mention a lot more pogi points. Strange that you didn't consider the Forester 2.0X, but congrats on your new sub bro! What color did you get?

    Thanks man. Got Lightning Red!

Forester was simply out of budget for me. If I had the bread I would've gotten that.

    Hi Stormgray,

How much were you able to get the impreza? 2.0 A/t?

I was thinking of getting one Jan next year, so it would be a 2009 model already. Also considering the Lancer ex GTA, but with the price increase, I think they are pricing themselves out of their target market.

    Congrats on your new purchase.

    skidmerc, thanks.

SRP is P1.14m. They have a promo til end of the year (daw). Cash purchases are less P70k, and their all-in promo (free insurance, chattel mortgage, 3 years registration and 3M tint) has a reasonable interest rate tacked on, but with some creative negotiations with MI and the bank, you can save more than the discount of P70K.

I asked my SA to register it next year, so if you're paying in cash, you can still get one now and register next year.

    Guys,

I test-drove the 2.0 R-S MT yesterday and loved my first-time drive of a subie. I noticed though that the dash has a diff config from the wrx - there's no temp gauge!

Current owners, how do u deal with this coz i always look at the water temp gauge in my current car para alam ko na the engine is operating under normal temp. I'm about to buy pero bat wala sya temp gauge?

    Thanks and more power!

Wow! Thats a great deal you got there. I was there about 3 weeks ago and they gave me 50K off only. Hope I could get the same deal from my SA.

Feed back back when you get your car finally.

Truth be told, enzodino, I missed this when I test drove! I was a bit surprised. Did a bit of research and apparently there's an LED indicator of the engine temp only, which lights blue when cold and red when overheating. Look at the interior photos in this page.

stormgray thanks for confirming. funny thing is that you wont know if temp is past normal until the engine is overheating already which is a bad thing. with the gauge kasi you can do evasive actions before the engine actually overheats (and does potential damage to the pistons, etc.)

i just hope subies have pretty good and sturdy cooling systems. when are you getting yours?

a CUV versus a hatchback hehe. kung kakayanin nyo po then go for the forester na. nakapanuod ako dati video ng comparison of forester vs rav4 vs tucson vs murano vs crv and battle din of the AWD system and so goes on. anyway, if you're still onto SUVs po, well try nyo po forester instead of the impreza. just my 2 cents kasi baka habol nyo is yung versatility ng isang suv

hello sir Burai. I think they caompared it to the Rogue, not the Murano. The Fozzie still owned them anyway....

According to the SA, the cooling system is pretty good. I sure hope so, 'cause I already got mine this afternoon after taking the MRT and braving the long taxi line at Shangri-la Edsa Plaza.

Burai, I was hoping to go for the Forester, pero talagang way off budget. I was considering a car up to 1M, then I thought, 1.1M is only 100K difference, then someone was trying to market me a Strada for 1.25M. Sabi ko tigil na talaga sa 1.1M. Baka mamaya umabot pa ng 1.2 tapos 1.3 tapos 1.4 tapos 1.5, talagang mamumulubi na ako. I don't even know how much I can sell my old car for.

BTW, to those still considering to purchase an Impreza (read: skidmerc), my SA said they were told by management of a pending P50k increase in January 09.

Thanks for the heads up. Might go there during the long holidays and place a reservation. Banks would be closed, so I'm guessing my application can't be fixed.

    Enjoy your new ride!

skidmerc, look for Jim Arganoza (n is an enye). Tell him Allan referred you. He's pretty honest to potential buyers. So different from the slick-makulit-relentless types of salespeople.

You probably can if you get there in time. They might just be a few units short of the Impreza sales target after revising it upward.

AFAIK po, it changes color when it exceeds normal operating temperature. NOT when it has boiled over already.

The cooling system's solid, even for the turbos. But you might need to add some (subaru) coolant every couple of months or so since there are sometimes micro-leaks coming out of the junctions -- probably pag nasa upper range ng normal temp.

So don't forget to check once in a while (sa refill bottle lang) -- it shouldn't be more than a hundred ml or so.

Check subaru club for more info po. It's under Yuichi's name.

Impreza is cheaper, handles better, and is probably better for city driving though ...

yep i know sir pero the FC's just not efficient enough (well, mapapatawad naman yun dahil sa beast performance niya and overall user satisfaction) for city driving always. lalo na yung paborito kong STI huhu which i think papatak lang ng 5+kms/l (yun pa naman balak kong gawing city cruiser ko everyday pag nabiyayaan ako)
