Yummy: Yep used it climbing shangri-la parking lot when I have 5 people in the car. OK naman, its just like using D1 -D2 in an Auto Tranny.

Its for when u really need lots of torque. Easy to use, depress clutch, pull the handle up, and off you go.

a ok hehehe... natry mo na gamitin yun pagka from tarmac then suddenly on a gravel/dirt road while doing atleast 60-100kph?

HP - asked about the diesel engines.. sad to say, they say by 2011 lalabas pa dito..

Has anyone recently bought the Impreza 2.0R AT? may waiting list ba like the Forester? I heard kasi na the Forester has a month or two to have its customers wait. If so? how long?

    thanks!

Any Subaru owners who can tell me how expensive it is to maintain a Subaru Impreza? A general picture will suffice: I mean, sing mahal ba siya i-maintain ng Honda? Mas mura ba siya sa BMW i-maintain? How expensive are the parts, considering there's only one dealer and casa?

    Thanks.

we don't have an Impreza, but judging from the Forester, here's what I can tell you:

mas mahal sa Honda/Toyota nang konti, pero WAY cheaper than any European brand out there.

haj and other Subaru owners: how does the regular check-ups/change oil/tune-up compare with other Japanese brands? I mean, how much more expensive are they, percentage-wise?

If I bought a RAV4 or Honda CRV or even a Strada, how much more expensive in maintenance would an Impreza entail? Malaki ba ang difference, or quite negligible?

actually you're lucky you have Motor Image. malas kaming mga 2004 and earlier kasi we were once under GM. The price for maintenance, kahit change oil lang and clean everything, would easily soar above 10k, last I looked at the GM chit. Motor Image gives it at about anywhere between 5 and 9k. (maybe other owners can correct me there; mejo matagal since the last one ) Kung hindi ka puspusan ng maintenance, aabot siya ng close to 30k (like napalitan kami ng brake rotor and pad, wheel cylinder assy., etc etc.)

To be honest, Toyota and Honda are getting expensive na rin eh. The '00 Civic takes up around 5k. So in essence, maybe around 20-30% more for the Subbies. Mitsubishi has stories of bad customer service haunting its buyers. But I can say with all my heart that the Subarus are even more reliable than the brands you mentioned. Tibay talaga. Apart from the aesthetics which will really deteriorate, it will still run with gusto. (ours is nearing 45k kms and it still smokes those 1.8 Altis's with more power and less weight and minds that think they can outrun a Subaru... sounds great too. :D) All in all, yung difference sa bayad will be sulit in the long run after you see the stunning reliability.

Haj, salamat. Your comments will really help me in my fact-finding mission. Actually, the sales exec I spoke to was honest enough to tell me how much change oil, tune up, etc amounted to. Thank you again!

I'm scheduled for a test drive on Saturday.

Easy! A friend is discouraging me from purchasing this. Baka mahirapan daw sa parts after warranty and they'll be expensive. Have you had any problems in service? I mean, sobrang mahal ba ng parts?

whatever car you get, be it a Honda or a Ferrari, when, for example, nasira ang ECU, orig parts will cost a bomb in your groin. Price-wise, the sky's the limit for any make of car. You can be paying anywhere from PhP9000+ (I think that was for our brake rotor, per piece) to upwards of who-knows-what. Of course, Europeans are always going to cost almost double, but why spend on one when the Japs are doing the same cars? Other Japanese makes will be expensive depending on what you have to replace. A simple computer box, NOT the main ECU, of our 2000 Civic VTI was replaced and it cost a whopping PhP150,000. Price isn't something much to worry about with Subaru; like I said, they have really good reliability.

After-sales is good naman eh. One outlet lang pero maganda service nila; alam nila how to make the most of what little space they have. Service is normally good, as long as you don't get Mel; she can be a tad pesky. ;P

Does your friend have a Subaru? I hate to be harsh and frank, but Subaru is something you have to experience before you say anything, or you'll end up stereotyping your way through. Tell him, and without any offense meant, that he should go test-drive/buy one before he criticizes based on what he thinks. On the Subaru owner side, we love our cars, and any glitches MI may have are baliwala once it does get out of the service center and in our hands to drive.

'Think. Feel. Drive.'--- Subaru's motto; not 'Work. Pay. Fix. Drive'
    ... Follow your heart man.

Well said, haj. I will seriously take into consideration your words. Just for the record, though, my friend is actually connected with the Diamond Motors Group as a General Manager. According to him, for a time the owners of Diamond had a Subaru dealership so he told me that it was difficult getting parts for their customers. In fairness to him, though, he flat-out told me that he wouldn't try to make me take it off my shortlist of vehicles, but that I should try to gather more data on the maintenance costs after-warranty, since based on his experience Subarus are expensive to maintain. Siguro MotorImage has a better line to the manufacturer in Japan.

Which is precisely why I'm consulting people like you who have prior experience with this brand. Salamat ng marami, sir!

The test drive will let me find out for sure if this is the car for me.

PS-Mel was the one listed on the brochure given out at the Motorshow at The Fort. Good thing I spoke to another person in MotorImage.

By the way, haj, regarding your earlier post about the possible waitlist for the Impreza, the guy I spoke to told me the waiting time is dependent on the color chosen. They normally bring in 2 Imprezas per color variant only. Whites are sold out, they have one lightning red available and two blue micas. Black and silver are also available.

yes, MI does have a better line to Japan. I remember reading that brake rotors would cost 22k a piece for the Forester before; we got ours for 9k a piece. Subaru never really got a foothold in the Philippines with GM and, I suppose, Diamond, but with Motor Image they're all over the streets... if this were just 3 years ago, I would be thinking of myself in Subaru Heaven.

No problem with the help man.... I'm glad to help....

And regarding your other reply, thanks man, I think our family's going for the Legacy wagon instead though. Thanks for you input man.... appreciate it. :D

    haj,

I did the test drive last Saturday. Even if it was short, I can honestly say, "wow"!

My expectation about a Subaru feeling like a Japanese car manufactured in Europe was absolutely confirmed. All the small things added up to this feel: solid-sounding doors, good-looking interior, nice gauges, great airconditioning system, etc., etc., ad nauseam.

Now I'm truly leaning towards purchasing this. Heaven help my budget!

it was criticized as the japanese version of BMW. for me, its like the best luxury automaker in japan (tapos may rally at aircraft DNA infused pa = nice!). linya pa lang ewan ko sino una at sino gaya gaya eh. what makes a subaru, a subaru. tapos what makes a bmw, bmw.
wops medyo OT na yata. anyway, nice pick there!
