Ateneo simply fell short, says Ravena
Ateneo’s five-year reign in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament may have ended last Wednesday but star guard Kiefer Ravena opted to look on the bright side, saying the painful setback will only make the Blue Eagles more determined to bounce back next season.
“Siyempre disappointment siya pero isa siyang disappointment na thankful kami kasi pinagtrabahuhan naming lahat,” he noted after emerging from the team’s dugout at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum following a stunning 74-82 defeat against University of Santo Tomas that knocked Ateneo out of the Final Four.
“The team gave its best. Pero natalo lang talaga kami,” he added.
Ravena had an all-around outing of 20 points, six rebounds and five assists in 31 minutes of action but the Growling Tigers, with Karim Abdul and gunner Jeric Teng leading the way down the stretch, just wouldn’t be denied this time.
This marks the first time the Blue Eagles will miss the semifinals since 1998. They also became the first defending champion team to fail to advance to the Final Four since Far Eastern University in 2006.
