Interesting to note that nobody thought to sue Sanofi over this...although i would be very surprised if they didn't prepare against this --- malamang me waiver yan sa contract kaya wala silang liability.

Not to shift blame over the matter, but afaik the program was instituted at the start of the current admin. Objectors to the program could have taken the opportunity to stop it.

^the vaccine was developed due to urgency to avert an outbreak

Side effects are typical in the development of vaccines

Theres a possible problem for those innoculated in the future, theres also a sure problem for those who get infected without innoculation

This is a classic situation of damn if you do and damn if you dont

from what i've read, during clinical trials of Dengvaxia, Sanofi was giving the vaccine to children 5 years or younger

    a lot of them seronegative

the hospitalization rate was significantly higher among those vaccinated than controls

    so Sanofi knew what's happening

that's why Sanofi upped the age to 9

    testing for antibodies is costly

by upping the age, there will be less dengue-naive children

didn't have to spend on antibody tests

Dengue experts all agree that secondary dengue infection is more severe than the first

the immune reaction is what makes it worse

When a person gets infected for the first time, there are flu-like symptoms lang

When infected with another strain later (maybe years later), the immune system recognizes the 2nd dengue enough to respond but doesn't make the right antibodies

the antibodies instead help the virus enter cells and replicate more easily

The body then mounts an exaggerated immune response that causes hemorrhage and shock

basically the 1st infection enhances the 2nd infection

they call it ADE (antibody-dependent enhancement) read about it

that virus family (dengue, West Nile virus, yellow fever, Zike, Japanese encephalitis etc) is notorious for ADE

what makes the vaccine dangerous to dengue-naive subjects is that it acts as the 1st infection

the vaccine set up several thousands of people to exaggerated immune response to dengue in the future

Philippines early adopter of dengue vaccine

    too early

should have waited for newer dengue vaccines that can minimize effect of secondary infection

    --

can't avoid thinking Big Pharma pushed it

and decision-makers in gov't had interest to make the purchase happen

Even Cito Beltran who supported digong in the last election, availed of this vaccine for his daughter and was very emphatic in his argument for his decision.

Let's not forget that it's not just the government that allowed administration of the vaccine.

All of my kids, nephews, and nieces pediatricians recommended the anti-dengue vaccine. Doctors in general rely on whatever documentation the pharma makes available. So really I don't see why there's a blaming game on which administration should be held accountable.

Meron atang isa

    so they stopped vaccination

    3 shots yan eh

    0/6/12 months

so hindi na mag booster shots?

    that's even worse

those kids get only 1 shot and their bodies won't make enough antibodies without boosters
