Scientists gauge an antibody’s usefulness by its ability to block virus from infecting and killing cells in a dish. So-called neutralizing antibodies that prevent infection are thought to be more powerful than antibodies that recognize the virus but can’t block infection, although both neutralizing and non-neutralizing antibodies contribute to defending the body.

The researchers found that five of the 13 antibodies neutralized the original strain. When they tested the neutralizing antibodies against the new variants, all five antibodies neutralized delta, three neutralized alpha and delta, and only one neutralized all four variants.

“In face of vaccination, delta is relatively a wimpy virus,” Ellebedy said. “If we had a variant that was more resistant like beta but spread as easily as delta, we’d be in more trouble.”

The antibody that neutralized all four variants of concern — as well as three additional variants tested separately — was called 2C08. In animal experiments, 2C08 also protected hamsters from disease caused by every variant tested: the original variant, delta and a mimic of beta.

Some people may have antibodies just as powerful as 2C08 protecting them against SARS-CoV-2 and its many variants, Ellebedy said. Using publicly available databases, the researchers discovered that about 20% of people infected or vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2 create antibodies that recognize the same spot on the virus that is targeted by 2C08. Moreover, very few virus variants (.008%) carry mutations that allow them to escape antibodies targeting that spot.

“This antibody is not unique to the person we got it from,” Ellebedy said. “Multiple antibodies targeting this area have been described in the literature; at least one is under development as a COVID-19 therapy. Similar antibodies have been generated by people infected in Italy and people infected in China and people vaccinated in New York. So it’s not limited to people of certain backgrounds or ethnicities; it’s not generated only by vaccination or by infection. A lot of people make this antibody, which is great because it is very potent and neutralizes every variant we tested.”

Maybe because the latter doesn't want to go through that hell again and being very careful while the former has this false sense of confidence.

Israel started vaccinations in Dec 2020

while they were vaccinating they experienced their 2nd wave

    madami nahawa

so they had a lot of people they can track -- those who got vaccinated and those who got infected

7 to 8 months later the 3rd wave arrives (delta)

napansin nila madami vaccinated na-ospital --> maybe vaccine protection faded

napansin din nila there were less hospitalizations among those who were infected during the 2nd wave

so it looked like mas durable ang protection ng natural infection kesa bakuna

    that's what the study says

Ang medical community is split on traditional & new tech. Traditional kasi subok na with predictable side effects. New tech is showing a lot of potential but as far as using it on my children, I’d adopt a wait & see attitude.

Kung may plano ka mag-anak wag ka paturok mRNA. Kahit ano pa covid vaccine wag kahit the SAFER INACTIVATED VIRUS because its still not safe pero yan matino sinovac.

Pang palakas ko immunity kumakain ako native ampalaya aka ampalayang ligaw na thrice a week. Hilaw ko kinakain one to two piece. Iniisip ko parang singkamas chunichew ko maayos nalalasahan ko talaga pait. Wag yung lulun agad. Nguyain maayos

Just my opinion, but I feel that among the industries that should ease up, it should be the restaurants. They should allow dine in for fully vaxxed or at least test the ground.

Besides Moderna having foreign contaminants that turned out to be metallic...

Contaminant in Moderna COVID-19 vaccine vials found in Japan was metallic particles: report | FiercePharma

UPDATE 1-Two die in Japan after shots from suspended Moderna vaccines - Japan govt

TOKYO, Aug 28 (Reuters) - Two people died after receiving Moderna Inc COVID-19 vaccine shots that were among lots later suspended following the discovery of contaminants, Japan's health ministry said on Saturday.

The men in their 30s died this month within days of receiving their second Moderna doses, the ministry said in a release. Each had a shot from one of three manufacturing lots suspended on Thursday. The causes of death are being investigated.

As of Aug. 8, 991 people had died in Japan after receiving shots of Pfizer Inc's vaccine and 11 after receiving Moderna's, but no causality between the injections and the deaths has been established, according to the health ministry. Adverse reactions have been reported at a frequency of 0.01% for the Moderna shot.

In the fatalities reported on Saturday, each man had a fever the day after his second dose and died two days after getting the fever. There has been no evidence that their shots contained contaminants, a health ministry official told reporters. (Reporting by Rocky Swift in Tokyo; Editing by William Mallard)

Trade chief backs relaxed rules for vaccinated people in MECQ areas

Establishments that offer personal care and dine-in services in areas under modified enhanced community quarantine should be allowed to reopen only for vaccinated customers, a Cabinet official said on Saturday.

“[I] am pushing for allowing vaccinated to allow sa bawal na sectors (that are prohibited to operate in MECQ areas) — dine-in and personal care,” Trade Secretary Mon Lopez said in a statement.

Lopez said his proposal could convince more people to get vaccinated and help restore jobs.

The Department of Health said while Lopez’s proposal will be studied, other issues should be considered.

“Marami pa sa mga kababayan natin ang hindi bakunado—hindi sila bakunado not because they don't like to be vaccinated but because supplies are not there yet,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a briefing.
