"The leading sportswear brand in China has signed Damon Jones to endorse their Chinese kicks in the America. The company's name is Li Ning, which is appropriate, since Damon Jones will always be lean-ing on someone else like Shaq or LeBron for his celebrity.
I hope the Li Ning people didn't just let Damon Jones talk them into this. I mean, if you didn't know anything about the NBA, and you sat down with Damon Jones for twenty minutes, he'd have you believing that he was the greatest player in NBA history, and that LeBron James is his cleaning lady. I love Damon Jones, but I do believe that there is a pretty significant distance between the reality of his place in the NBA and his perception of that place.
Otherwise, if the Li Ning crew actually knows the NBA a little bit, and is aware that Damon Jones is a role player that's getting booed on his own court (which is dumb), it's a pretty shrewd decision. No, they aren't going to get LeBron, KG, or Kobe. They're probably not even going to get Brad Miller or Samuel Dalembert. So why not go with the little guy on the bench who just never shuts the **** up?
If the shoes don't sell, it won't be because Damon Jones didn't try. His mission in life appears to be to become a celebrity. The way he clung to Shaq when he was with the Heat (or Heats, as the article calls them) was amusing, if not a little bit sad. If the guy wasn't playing ball, he'd probably be one of these reality TV whores, one week trying to get some bachelorette whore to fall in love with him, and the next, anchoring a tug-of-rope contest against some other douchebags on MTV. The man just loves cameras."
