Masters, question po. I have been reading about layering in some forums lately on how it gives a little extra protection. Nalilito pa rin ako.

First, I know glazes are supposed to be topped by waxes or sealants. I think I also read somewhere that glazes normally have short lifespans and if you put wax on top if it, the wax/sealant would only have the same lifespan as the glaze.. Is this true?

For layering of the same products like nxt on nxt or moms phase3 on phase3, do I need to wait for the product to cure? (Or does this only applies to synthetics since carnaubas cure on the spot.. I think..)

I understand that two coats does not necessarily mean twice the shine and twice the protection but up to how many layers (of LSP) would still be not OA?

I'm also seeing stuff like several layers of 3m IHG or Mom's S&G befor LSP.. Does this also improve shine and depth? Would this come at a cost of protection?

Sorry for all the questions. I'm just seeing a lot of really great results from other people using the same stuff I use and I was thinking on how to improve.. I really want to get that really great glow from my daily rider while extending durability also.

Pahabol po. I only have 2 waffle pads and I was planning on doing 3m Machine Glaze (to remove really light swirls) then IHG then my LSP. Would it be ok (well I know its not really advisable) if I use one pad for the MG and IHG?

For layering you'd probobly have to wait a day or so for the product to cure IMO. 2 or 3 layers would suffice. In autopia, I've read that you can combine waxes for both depth and shine with the carnuba always being the final layer. Mix and Match, until you find the right combo for your ride.

You'd have to wash your pad first before using another product.

one major reason is that the wax / sealant is bonding to the glaze and not directly to the surface of your car. glazes usually have lots oils in them that eventually wash away in due time. this is one of the reasons why you have to check for compatibility on your product combos. also, wait for your LSP to set / flash and cure...

ideally, in order for the polymers to set-up nicely, you have to let it cure for around 24 hours or so before applying the 2nd layer. so basically, 2 thin coats instead of one whopper. this insures even coverage of your product. take note that the operative word here is "IDEALLY". we don't live in a perfect world so there'll be lots of factors / contaminants preventing us doing so. so, with regards to this, some people apply immediately after, some people don't. it just really depends on how far you want to go...

personally, I'm ok at 2-3 layers. just get a few coats going in due time for maximum protection. remember, diminishing returns...

yes it does, but at the cost of protection? there are trade-offs to consider. all the reason more on why you should check on your combo. keep in mind that glazes are cosmetic as compared to waxes / sealants in terms of durability. Glazes just fill in the defects, thus covering them up. these eventually wash / evaporate away and will show up. (see answer to your first Q.)
some argue kasi that these are just cosmetic and disrupts the bond ng wax / sealant blah blah blah yada yada yada... this for me is splitting hairs. its down to a microscopic level when you look at it..
but if you constantly take care of your car by washing it, waxing it frequently, this, IMO, is the best protection.

the product can only take you so far. it takes some skills and experience (and a good machine hehehe). just ask the pros here.. if it was easy, then everybody would be doing it.

definitely yes. ideally, different pads for different products. but you can also wash the pad and reuse it.

ILD: That's not very accurate actually (regarding layering and wax/sealant combo). I'm not saying you're wrong, but it's not definitive.

1) Layering... Usually 3hrs will suffice for most waxes to harden, especially if the weather is dry. Sealants, depende sa brand.
2) Combo... The wax's gloss will not dictate the final outcome of the paint. The bottom layers do actually. Try this. If you layer a coat of sealant then a wax, you won't see much change, if there is, it'll simply be the wax reducing the gloss creating the illusion of darker paint.

On the other hand, if you start off with a wax or glaze then you put sealant you'll see more depth than gloss...

If you're the type that prefer looks over durability, then it doesn't matter much if the product bonds or not hehe as long as it looks good.

I'll just try different combos and see which produces the best results on a silver hehehe.

What I have now is the 3M Show Car Liquid Wax, Megs Medalion Paint Cleaner, Moms cleaner wax, Moms HotWheels Wax, 3M Sratch Remover.

Anybody here tried applying Glaze as the final layer? Ano kaya effect nito?

well right now, glaze lang ako kasi newly-painted auto ko... itching to get some layers going nga eh...

durability sucks kasi glaze lang talaga.. gone after 2-3 days (hindi umaabot ng 1 week) because of the rains and extreme heat during the day.. syempre after the rains, kailangan namang hugasan auto. ayun, tanggal ang glaze after a few days.. no gloss and slickness tuloy. kainis.. Squeaky clean... hehehe

On my silver pickup I hardly use a polish... minsan those 3 in 1 products ang gamit ko - clean polish protect like Cleaner waxes or the EO Wet Polish n Wax. Para sa kin minimal lang kase effect ng polish/glaze sa silver... halos hindi halata ng average joe. But on a red or black car... now thats a different story. Sayang, I detailed the black explorer of my dad(as a fathers day gift) di ko nakuhanan ng picture. I did it by hand which like took me forever to finish! an laki kase ng kotse.
