Thought they could just go into any city in the world and break local regulations

With their easily replicable business model

It was inevitable that homegrown ride hailing companies with more local knowhow and willingness to work with regulators will beat Uber at their own game

This makes me sad

I felt so liberated when uber came into the market. I was able to commute on my own in a safe and comfortable manner.

I am glad I did not listen to my kuya when he told me to sell my car and just use uber on coding days.

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - Uber Technologies Inc’s [UBER.UL] chief executive pledged to continue investing aggressively in Southeast Asia even though the U.S. ride hailing firm expects to lose money in the fast growing market due to costly battles with rivals such as Grab.

“We expect to lose money in Southeast Asia and expect to invest aggressively in terms of marketing, subsidies etc,” Khosrowshahi told reporters in New Delhi, adding there is huge potential in the region thanks to a big population and fast internet user growth.

“From a competitive standpoint we think we can improve,” he said.
