i got the impression that, in the vintage watches industry,
un-retouched, un-polished items attract more attention than the so-called mildly-polished ones.
    is this true?
    Hi Doc.
As long as it gets proper service/maintenance, they perform accurately, like a new watch naman po.
And it’s true that a watch has higher value if it’all OG - all parts are as manufactured and if the dial is unretouched and case is unpolished. I have a Tudor Submariner I got from Japan for example that I got for a lower price than it would have sold because they replaced the tritium and applied new lume to the hands.

The dial is unretouched and still retains the Tritium but the hands have been relumed. This could have sold at 2x the value if the hands were not re-lumed. I don’t mind naman so I still got it. The lume is helpful at night. Besides, i like the small case size of 36mm vs 40mm for the Rolex Submariner. And I like the understated elegance of this Submariner. Sabi nga nila sa ad nila years ago:
‘ (Tudor is for) the man whose purse may be modest, yet whose aspirations are high.’

The Orient Bambino is an excellent value watch. Well-designed. I just wish they had smaller cases for smaller wrists. Meron ba silang 36-38mm? Would consider getting those. Parang 40-41mm ata kasi yun sizes nila.
I find those sizes too big for my wrist. Parang 36-37mm yun best for my wrist, esp if dressy yun watch. Pag divers, I can wear 40mm, sagad na siguro 42mm (SKX007, for example). Pero i like 36mm divers as well. Like this 36mm Longines Legend Diver on a 19mm Forstner Rivetted Bracelet:

I like a divers watch similar to this one. The JLC Polaris is only something you could wish for but that Longines Legend is a good buy for around 2k USD. For less than 1k USD, you could opt for the Certina DS PH200.

However, for the extra cost, you can already buy the entry level Seiko Prospex models. With some dealers, you can get them for less than 20k.

Also, there are already a bunch of very good homages being sold in Lazada and Ali Express. These homages are already powered by Seiko NH35 movements, with Sapphire crystals, and Ceramic bezel inserts. San Martin, Steeldive, Heimdallr, and Proxima are the more popular brands from China. Some such homages even come with a Swiss SW200 movement for a price much less than an entry-level Swiss watch.

Well, the watch should fit the wearer. In this case, it is an ostentatious display of wealth. Unfortunately, he couldn’t pull it off.

good-looking fakes are available in the open market.
    cheap lang.
    "they also tell time."

    even now,
    perusing carousell,
there are two of them side-by-side.
one selling for 16 M, the other for 2 K.
    heh heh.

    same with rolex.
    ka-takot bumili ng rolex ngayon...

The Citizen SkyHawk looks cool with its features and a solar-powered movement. A new one though is pricey for around 20k or more. For around the same price, you can get a nice Seiko Sumo or a decent Swiss watch like Steinhart.

For a lot less, check out the Citizen Nighthawk. It looks better in my opinion.

If you want something complicated with an automatic chronograph movement at a reasonable price, I suggest a Hamilton X-Wind. I want one too so I am selling my Hamilton X-Copter which also looks complicated. Send me a message if you’re interested.
