I'd do that to cutdown on employees. kse in danger na maging IBM ang Microsoft.

it's a cycle eh, noon araw it's xerox, then IBM at the top, then Microsoft now Apple. So if I am a smart CEO, I know Kung Saan patunguhan and company ko na run like a greed business.

Apple I doubt if they will have the same fate, coz their business is socially and morally responsible

An interesting move is Warren Buffet, he used to criticize tech companies. He even forecasted about the Facebook IPO as well as the global financial crisis. And he was right. Now, he bought A major stock of IbM. Though I know naman that he has interests in Microsoft with Bill being his bridge mate.

if I'm to follow his thinking, parang gusto ko mag-invest sa HP 10 years from now.

HP is tanking, IBM is fighting on, reshaping itself to survive. Magkaiba naman ata sila. Much better if you invest in Lenovo baka sila pa bumili sa HP later on.

It's just GE yun pinakasikat nun 50's and 60's, now we hardly notice GE pero GE pala ang pinakamalaki kumpanya sa mundo. Most of the things we buy have some GE on it.

ganyan ang style ni Buffet eh, he buys undervalued companies pero grabe ang cashflow.

Sa ngaun tanga Lang mag-invest sa Google, FB, and apple. They're just bubbles but bubbles to burst maybe years pa

    bubble bursting on google?

NEW YORK—Google’s shares plunged Thursday after a surprise drop in earnings in a prematurely released quarterly report, but while the Nasdaq sank the Dow avoided being pulled down as well.

Google shares closed down 8.0 percent at $695.00, rebounding slightly after hitting a 10 percent floor earlier following the unintended release of its disappointing earnings report at mid-session.

Really? Apple's real business is making as much money from it's loyal hordes of blind followers. Their products which proved to be very "ungreen" were suddenly certified "green" through weird interpretation of certain loopholes. The "simple" Lightning cable to the iPhone5 is actually designed with a security microchip so you cannot buy cheaper non-Apple replacements, keeping "loyal" Apple iPhone5 (and future Apple devices) owners with the limited choice of only buying from Apple's own store.

For the Nokia holdouts out there...Long live Symbian!

Nokia officially pulls the plug on Symbian, puts it in 'maintenance mode'
    By Nick Broughall

Once upon a time, Symbian was everywhere. It was the de facto operating system for mobile phones for years, before the iPhone was a twinkle in Steve Jobs' eye.

And now it's gone, with Nokia officially putting the humble operating system into maintenance mode.

The decision to kill off Symbian has been in the works for a while, although nobody quite expected for Nokia to pull the plug with such a whimper.

Following its last update, FP2, a user of Nokia's Drive app for the Nokia E7 lodged a bug report, only to get a response that Symbian is now in maintenance mode, and no new features will be added to the OS from here on out.

"Thank you for your improvement ideas, thus (sic) Symbian is in maintenance mode and no new features will be implement[ed] without extremely good reason (business case). We have written down your ideas for future development if there is a chance that new features will be released," read the response.

    A long time coming

In many regards, Nokia's commitment to Symbian has been its achilles heel in the smartphone race. While the FInns pioneered early smartphones with the N95 and N96, it was totally unprepared for Apple, then Google's entry into the smartphone market.

Eventually, rapidly declining Symbian sales saw the phone manufacturer take the step of partnering with Microsoft to exclusively release Windows Phone devices. It also decided to rename the operating system as "Nokia Belle".

The name change did little to salvage market share, leading to the decision to put the operating system into maintenance mode.

With no updates to the operating system other than bug fixes, this is undoubtedly the end of the line for the mobile operating system that drove mobile phones into the mainstream.

Beside having a hard sell of suddenly obsolete Windows phone 7 phones...Compared to the 5 million iPhone5 sold in the first weekend.

Nokia: 28% drop in Lumia sales in Q3, $754 million operating loss, and a rough Q4 ahead
    BY: ANTHONY DOMANICO, INTOMOBILE
    THURSDAY, OCTOBER 18TH, 2012 AT 4:01 AM

Nokia have fallen on some hard times of late. The Finnish handset maker just announced a Q3 net operating loss of $754 million on $9.4 billion in revenue, propelled by declining Symbian sales and a 28% drop in the number of Windows Phone-based Lumia devices sold compared to Q2. Nokia sold just 2.9 million Lumia devices in the quarter, including just 300,000 Lumia devices in the U.S., down from 4 million total and 600,000 in the US last quarter. A down quarter was expected for Nokia, however, as consumers interested in Windows Phone devices are likely holding off until Q4, when Microsoft releases the Windows Phone 8 platform, which represents a significant feature bump over WP7. Lumia sales were also further harmed once Microsoft made it known that no legacy devices would be upgraded to Windows Phone 8.

That said, Nokia projects Q4 will likely be soft as well, with projected operating losses around 6% (+/- 4%) due to product transitions and the continued transition from Symbian to Windows Phone. The company expects strong sales from its Lumia 820 and 920 devices when they launch in November, though Nokia notes that with all new devices come significant operating expenses which are likely to be especially costly with the worldwide Lumia 820 and 920 launches. Q4 2012 and Q1 2013 will be trying times for Nokia as the company has bet its future on the success of the Windows Phone platform. If Windows Phone 8 fails to gain traction in the same way Windows Phone 7 and 7.5 did, there may be few painful quarters left for the juggernaut that once ruled the mobile airwaves.

GH, that's OB talking through his ass again.

in addition, a socially and morally responsible business doesn't sue other companies because they feel threatened and want to monopolize the market. socially and morally responsible companies also don't abuse the broken patent system by patenting things that shouldn't have been approved in the first place. i mean c'mon who the heck submits patent requests for basic UI designs as slide to unlock and rounded corners.

On point of view of biz, there's nothing wrong about protecting its interest thru proprietory devices. If i was in the shoes of apple, ganun din gagawin ko. Similarly, if ako naman ang nasa shoes ng apple aftermarket devices, i'll simply enhance my R&D(para maby-pass ko ang mga yun agad and thus produce my accesories

Kailan ba naging issue ang technology like that...example nyan yung chip sa ink catrridge ng epson. Saglit lang din nung nakopya nila yun.

Morality in biz is long gone...kung ang company na pinagtatrabahuhan ninyo ay may moral, e di dapat pati kayo yumaman na simbilis ng company owners...

Think all you like but apple has a zero tolerance policy internet **** , they close all loopholes on virus attacks, whereas MS gusto-gusto pa yata para kumita ang buddies nya like Norton. And last but not least, they don't condone piracy, na-try nyo ba mag-submit ng apps sa itunes, grabe very strict.

And what about file-sharing, apple clipped the entire thing from their idevices. And they're right those files like mp3', *******s, ebooks, and other docs that we still steal everyday, it's a curse, imagine maintaining all that clutter in your brain.

Ngaun, i just buy what i need in app store for the moment, one app at a time. My life is simpler, and I get to handle other aspects of my life,

Android is the new Microsoft with all that rooting, and piracy, file-sharing. Sooner or later it will be the most hacked device in the planet, goodluck na lang sa inyo, I want to have a T86 2 years from now, and with apple making my life easier and efficient, maybe 1.5 years I can

This will be my prediction, after Oct 26, those lumias will become in demand coz those are the best deviices to sync with the Upcoming MS Surface.

ms will have the edge in the tablet wars this xmas, coz of the smart cover keyboard, and not to mention the new Windows 8. Suddenly the advantage of Android over Apple sa file sharing and usb r/w capability is over. We're talking about pc's here. Word, excel, powerpoint, mp3, mp4 is just a click away to Windows Surface.

though, ang bonus talaga is MS skydrive, same as Icloud. New MsSurface users will find the Nokia Lumias as th best portable device to bring their data synced with the Windows 8 Ms surface.

    Windows 8 getting

Windows 8 getting ‘overwhelmingly negative’ response from vendors
    Richard Goodwin

Some of Microsoft’s supply chain vendors are said to be very unimpressed by the company’s soon-to-be-released Windows 8 platform

The PC market is heading for a ‘muted December quarter' and Microsoft’s Windows 8 is failing to impress key manufacturers inside the company’s supply chain, according to one analyst.

Topeka Capital analyst Brian White has been visiting with key supply chain manufacturers in Asia and is reporting that many have expressed an ‘overwhelmingly negative’ perception towards Microsoft's soon-to-be-released Windows 8 platform.

White says Windows 8 will fail to impact the market significantly upon arrival later this month, despite the number of hybrid tablet devices it will launch aboard in the months between now and Christmas.

Microsoft will have to wait until at least half through 2013 before Windows 8 gains any sort of traction, White added.

Microsoft is reportedly investing around $1.5 - $1.8 billion into marketing Windows 8. Yet despite this White claims the PC market is headed for a ‘muted December quarter.’

Microsoft’s Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 are poised to launch at the end of the month.

Hardware, both in the form of tablets and smartphones, will begin to appear in stores as early as November.

    Worst than Windows Vista?

Analyst: Windows 8 Heading For Massive Fail!

Topeka Capital analyst Brian White has been travelling round Asia, meeting with various supply chain sources, discussing the imminent launch of Windows 8. What he heard is bad news for Microsoft.

The overall sentiment from his various sources was overwhelmingly negative about Windows 8. They believe that the launch will spur initial sales on October 26 and that they will continue for a while into November. However, come December, orders will start to dry up, leaving factories idle.

It's beginning to look like this will be a fail even more massive than Vista way back in 2007. This situation is in stark contrast to Windows 7, where enthusiasm was running high right from the first beta release and exploded upon release.

Come on Microsoft, just give us our Start button back, return Aero and make Metro/Modern UI optional, then watch as all the negative sentiment melts away and people start to appreciate the many under-the-hood improvements that you've made to the operating system and sales take off. Ignore this and Windows 8 is dead in the water.

Although October is expected to be the sweet spot for the notebook ramp for Windows 8, and further follow through is likely in November, we were warned of idle facilities in December. One of our contacts does not expect Windows 8 to be material until the second-half of 2013.

That's a problem with HTC's phones, poor battery life. And making it worst is you can't change it with a bigger capacity battery since it is sealed in. Also the One X has no expandable memory slot. That is why the Galaxy S3 is king because it has all the features people are looking for.
