I kinda find the larger screen, better camera, and faster hardware to be too marginal given the huge price difference between, say, a Galaxy Ace and a Galaxy S3.

I'm pretty new to this whole droid ecosystem since I've been a Nokia Symbian user since I was a teenager. Unfortunately my E71 got stolen a few months ago, so I had no choice but to change my phone.

Originally I was gonna get a BB Curve 9220, but for a little less money I was able to get an HTC Chacha. Sure it only runs on Gingerbread (though I tried an ICS rom but didn't quite like it) and has crappy battery life, but at least it's got the QWERTY form factor that I prize most. Comparing it to more expensive droids, what difference is there in functionality? What exactly can't I do in my cheap phone that I can do with an S3 or One X?
U know what really don't make sense at all is they buy an expensive samsung android phone, where most people can afford even a cherry android phone at 2,999 each., thinking that it's an apple equal.

The hardware is just half the investment, the software is what is truly deal breaker here. Why pay a premium over something that can be had with less than 3k. The android is FREE! It doesnt cost anything, coz even a lowly brand cherry can have it installed in their hardware.

But the big picture is it's android vs. windows 8 vs. ios, most have it's core phone operations present in all system versions, so same banana lang, in the most basic sense, the devices will differentiated by os, not the versions.

Android just implies cheap coz it's free, it's installed on china-made tablets, it's installed on some car HU, in fact, it's even given for free ata sa pLDT touchpad/telpad.

So what's really happening with all your investments sa phone, sobrang dami naman android phones sa market, ace, galaxy, note, tapos meron pa LG, HTC. so many brands, so many iterations, if you're gonna sell your android a year from now, chances are 2nd hand buyers wouldn't be familiar with its specific model and capabilities.

Between iOS devices puwede mag-transfer using a third party apple app. But to other devices no. Reason: security.

Steve jobs before he died already clarified na maging different ang experience Ng I-devices, if you want file copying get a Mac or PC.

    and now I understand why

The Feds don't see a future with RIM products...

(Reuters) - The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) said it will end its contract with BlackBerry maker Research In Motion Ltd in favor of Apple Inc's iPhone, dealing a new blow to RIM just months before it launches a vital new device.

The agency said in a solicitation document posted last week that it intends to buy iPhones for more than 17,600 employees - a purchase worth $2.1 million.

The agency said it has relied on RIM for eight years, but the company "can no longer meet the mobile technology needs of the agency."

It also said it analyzed Apple's iOS-based devices and Google Inc's Android operating system and concluded that, for the near term, Apple's iPhone services offer the best technology for the agency because of Apple's tight controls of the hardware platform and operating system.

The agency said the iPhone will be used by a "variety of agency personnel, including, but not limited to, Homeland Security Investigations, Enforcement and Removal Operations and Office of the Principal Legal Advisor employees.

"The iPhone services will allow these individuals to leverage reliable, mobile technology on a secure and manageable platform in furtherance of the agency's mission."

Last week, consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton said it was dropping BlackBerry and switching to iPhone and Android smartphones for its staff of around 25,000.

Analysts said that other businesses and agencies are likely to follow suit especially in light of demand for other smartphones.

"You're going to see this happen more and more," said Ed Snyder, an analyst at Charter Equity Research.

"They still have excellent security ... but if your handsets are a brick that no one wants to use it's going to drag down your business."

RIM has high hopes that its new BB10 smartphone, expected to in early 2013, will compete with iPhones and Android phones. The BB10 will come equipped with a revamped operating system and is aimed at putting an end to a precipitous decline in RIM's market share over the past year and longer.

"Of course, we are disappointed by this decision," RIM vice president of government solutions Paul Lucier said in an emailed statement. "We are working hard to make our new mobile computing platform, BlackBerry 10, meets the future needs of government customers."

RIM said that, after accounting for the ICE move, it had one million government customers in North America.

RIM's advantage has been what industry experts widely describe as superior security and device-management features that have made the BlackBerry appealing to corporate IT managers and a crucial tool for police, government and military use.

But that advantage is waning with the growing number of providers that help companies beef up security on iPhones and Androids and with Apple working on better security on its devices.

"Apple is really addressing security," Sterne Agee analyst Shaw Wu said, adding that it had improved security with the acquisition of AuthenTec and that it now supports Cisco's VPN.

Wu said RIM's problems were compounded by questions over the company's economic viability.

"Is the company going to be around in the next couple of years?" Wu said.

In addition, he added that "a lot of these enterprises have moved beyond email and voice, on to apps and, with RIM, it's pretty clear that their app ecosystem is very weak."

They all had their own style plugs in the past but today, they are using the USB standard.

Except Apple... they have their own legions of fans who would pay for anything labeled with the fruit.

para po sa mga walang iPhone. I tell u the reason why blackberry is doomed. It's bec of imessage app of iPhone. If 2 iPhones or even 2 iPhones and 1 iPad 3G are always ON connected to 3G or wifi, text messaging is FREE.

That's why I had all members of my family shift to iPhone, para wala na kami binabayaran piso per text. I got them bnew 3GS 8GB na 14k lng ngaun sa malls, open line pa.

you don't even need bbID to identify your receipt, basta simpleng phone number lng even prepaid.

So that proprietary messaging that BB is boasting about, gudbye. It's not even that intuitive

I support the microchip if ever meron nga sa lightning connector Ng iDevices. Too many rip offs our there. Mostly substandard china fakes, and it can ruin an expensive iphone. Wrong current lng, makikita nyo maging Hindi responsive ang touch Ng iPhone nyo.

The orig apple chargers are best tested in Europe when I went there. Grabe mga sockets fun nineteen Kopong-kopong tlaga with their old buildings and stuff. My friend's Nokia charger literally smoked when he plugged it in there. Pero yun sa akin no problems.

Maybe that's why most French sports an Iphone, even our hotel driver. And even if Finland is like several miles away lang, kse nga apple produces hi-quality products even the lowly chargers
