sms scammers are computer-savvy, that's basically a requirement LOL. so it would be trivial for them to fake a low-security ID like senior citizen's
if it's too easy to circumvent then it's useless

NTC releases rules and regulations of SIM Registration Law – Manila Bulletin
Individual registrants will be required to submit their full name, date or birth, ***, present or official address, type of identification card, and identification card number presented.

By that logic, since everyone is jaywalking anyway, does it mean we should just abolish pedestrian crossings? It's far too easy to shoot holes at laws but all the negatives aside, I have faith that the merits of this law can still produce a net positive.
That's at least adding a few extra steps just to use burner SIMs.

December 16th, 2022 05:36 PM #30I heard it on the radio news when NTC was interviewed that a selfie would be required by the telcos, otherwise anyone could be a possible victim of indentity theft just by submitting a fake IDs. How the telcos could validate the registration just by a picture of an ID online.
