    afaik the law doesn't authorize telcos from taking your picture

    Yes and it has to be clear. My phone is under my Mom's name and I had to take her photo several times pa.

    By that logic, since everyone is jaywalking anyway, does it mean we should just abolish pedestrian crossings? It's far too easy to shoot holes at laws but all the negatives aside, I have faith that the merits of this law can still produce a net positive.

    That's at least adding a few extra steps just to use burner SIMs.

    I heard it on the radio news when NTC was interviewed that a selfie would be required by the telcos, otherwise anyone could be a possible victim of indentity theft just by submitting a fake IDs. How the telcos could validate the registration just by a picture of an ID online.
