i have an acer 5551ekekekekekek (damn ang haba kasi ng name). performance, am satisfied basta wag lang graphics intensive games (T2200 iirc, 512MB ram, intel GMA vid card). quality, yes, though i hate the flimsy bluetooth and wifi buttons in front. after-sales support...can't say. i've only asked them about replacing the plastic LCD cover with a carbon-fiber one and they said it'd void the warranty.

Asus is a Tier 1 Notebook maker... Same as Quanta, Compal, Foxconn... Tier 1 makers sell a lot in terms of volume which means they MAY have better quality control because meron silang pambili ng QC machines to do testing... Tier 1 makers are hired by Compaq, HP, Dell and even Apple to do manufacturing & assembly aka ODM sila...

Yung mga NEO sa Pinas... tatak nyan ay Clevo... They are Tier 2 Notebook makers which MAY have lower quality standards... kasama sa Tier 2 ang ECS, MSI, Twinhead....

Moral of the story: Nothing beats longer warranties.... Asus has a 2-year global warranty kaya good buy talaga ito...

Asus makes the Mac Book Pro...
    Foxconn makes the Mac Book...

Kaya blame Asus for the initial overheating Mac Book Pros... at blame Foxconn for the yellowish colors in some initial white Macbooks...

Anyway recalled naman lahat eto at syempre replaced brand new...

a6b00r, for gaming, watching dvd and for presentations. vcd and dvd playback ang sira, nakakabasa pa naman ng mga cd, kaya lang hindi pwede manood ng dvd/vcd. check nyo yung sa inyo para ma iclaim nyo warranty.

yeah compact is correct 1 year lang ang battery... but that is a "dispensable" item... mas importante na 2 years ang warranty ng major parts like the LCD, Motherboard dahil pag yan ang nasira... maluluga ka talaga... Optical Drives can be replaced.... heck baka nga next time pwede mo pa i-upgrade to Blue Ray yan e...

Saka dont blame too much Asus for the defective Optical Drive... kung sila ang manufacturer nun e di we can blame them right away for poor quality pero kung iba which is Matsushita & Toshiba usually, then sila ang may quality control problem... besides... kung palaging ginagamit for watching movies ang DVD drives, mas mabilis masira nga to... Look at the PS2 ganyan din sakit....

Sad to hear though na matagal dumating ang battery... you can blame the supplier (who I know) pero what you can just do at your end is demand an extension of 3 months... kasi ang tagal mo nag antay e... just make sure its in writing....

    erm laptop help lang po...

which do you think would be the best buy? i could get the MSI here kaya lang may option ako na magpabili sa pinsan ko sa Canada. mahal talaga ang laptop dito sa pinas, lalu na pag branded. ipapalit ko lang sa aking ageing desktop PC. I'll be doing simple graphics editing, gaming (ps2++ graphics would be fine for me) and coding (matlab, easy68k).

ok talaga mga old ibms... but of course thinkpads are already owned & manufactured now by lenovo... so hindi na tayo masyadong sure about that... compaq rose in quality because of HP's ownership kaya lately okay na rin yung mga compaq branded HPs like presarios....
