parang nakakatakot yang DMZ. hwag nalang![]()
You only use DMZ if you have an application that is using a wide range of ports. Instead of manually forwarding them...just set that particular computer to be in the DMZ as it opens the most commonly used ports.
PPTP is usually used if you need to connect via VPN or if you have a VPN server behind your router.
HTH
I have set-up already Linksys, Netgear, & SMC (sorry guys i don't buy D-link for wireless routers coz it sucks big time according to PC World, PC Mag & Tom's)
Sa UI at user-friendliness wala talaga tatalo sa Netgear... SMC has lots of options for advanced users... Linksys naman is just okay. I recommend buying Linksys because of its speed in mix mode b/g and G... Use netgear if you want longer distances & easy web set-up interface... use SMC for on the budget Super-G performance & since subsidiary sya ng Accton.
Talaga bro? Hehe. I have a Dlink Wireless Router, and yeah it sucks.. sometimes =) I remember returning the unit to the store because I get disconnected from the internet every 5 minutes, but the guy told me that the unit is working fine. (dang! I wouldn't return it If I am not having any problem.) Week after, my router is not giving me headache anymore. But still some minor problems continue to persist, but power cycle can handle it. =) hmm, I'll get a Linksys next timeSaan ba nakakabili ng Netgear, kasi naghanap na ko dati sa parksquare pero wala naman.
GmZ, bought mine in PC Express Gilmore. kaya lang don't know if the WiFi B is still available. you can get WiFi G instead. cost about couple of bucks cheaper than the Linksys WRT54G. my affliction for Linksys is the robust design and packaging and dual antenna. other than that, i'll still choose Netgear over it...![]()
yung WiFi B costs around Php 1550. pero yung WiFi G nasa Php 2,850.
aside from speed, range din. hamak na mas malakas ang WiFi G...![]()
damn! nangalikot ulit ako just now ng home networking ko. i connected my wired dlink router to the pldt modem-router and nagconnect naman sya and i can surf the net in no time. i then connected the linksys wireless router (configured as AP) to the dlink router and i can also surf in wireless mode.
now, i reconfigured the linksys wireless router as router, turned on dhcp, basta same config sya sa dlink router, connected it directly to the modem-router, but the linksys can't get an IP from PLDT! i tried to reset the linksys to the factory default settings, wala pa rin!
may problema kaya itong linksys ko? or baka meron incompatibility itong linksys with the PLDT supplied modem-router?
hi-end routers usually have bandwidth control features.
Pero meron yung mga routers natin ngayon na QoS or Quality of Service... pag configure nyan di ko masyado alam...
Pero ang perfect example ng QoS e when it comes to VOIP... If you will make a call, the router will provide the maximum bandwidth to your VOIP call instead to your downloads... tapos pag finished na call mo bigay nya ulit yung bandwidth sa download mo...
i can do that if i'm only downloading one *******. but if i'm downloading more than 1 *******, then the downloads won't be able to adjust based on the available seeders/leechers.
example:
i'm downloading 2 *******s using PC1 namely *******A & *******B. if i set a download limit of 20KB/s to each of the *******s. and during downloading, a lot of the seeders/leechers of *******A went offline, which means that *******A's download would be less than 20KB/s. *******B won't be able to use the additional bandwidth since it is limited to 20KB/s.
but if i can set a bandwidth for PC1 and don't set a limit for each of the *******s, then the downloads of each ******* can dynamically adjust itself, thus maximizing the alotted bandwidth for PC1.
Sir Boybi, I think I know na how to configure your PLDT router & your Linksys router.... Can you try putting the Ethernet cable of your PLDT router to a regular port of the Linksys and not on the Linksys' WAN port? And disable the DHCP server of the Linksys and change the address of the linksys to an IP being followed by your PLDT router????
I have tried configuring a Prolink ADSL modem-router and the solution was to plug it to a regular switch hub so that your other PCs will share the connection with IP addresses coming from the DHCP of the Prolink. Now since you have a Linksys router... we should disable all router functions and just use the switch hub function and the access point function of the Linksys....
Pag di pa rin gumana it will be time for a site visit and a "friendly" call to PLDT....![]()
will try to do that when i come back to the phils. thanks and happy new year!
