Got it! I just love the smell of brand new!

According to the manual, a 2 hour wait is required to help settle the refrigerant within. However, I decided to let it sit for at least 24 hours.

The next day, I read the manual again and it says to connect the grounding first. Done. I then plugged the ref to the AVR which is connected to a surge suppressor with line filter.

When turned on, I have to set it to the maximum setting. So, I did:

The manual said I have to wait for an hour before putting in stuff. However, I decided to let it sit until the next day. Since I wanted to test the coldness, I placed a coffee mug in the freezer filled with water.

On the next day, I measured the temperature with a laser thermometer on the ref first. It reads -3.7°C. It's colder than the 1°C ref setting. Pretty good!

Next, I opened the freezer and pointed the thermometer at the coffee mug with the frozen water in it. It reads -18.7°C. It's almost 5°C warmer than the setting. It should read at least -23°C. Something is not right. Not to panic. It's only physics. I hope.

Since water has a freezing point of 0°C, it will have difficulty reaching -23°C. So, I filled the coffee mug with canola oil, since cooking oil has a much lower freezing point of -10°C.

I closed the freezer door and waited for at least 3 hours. After 3 hours, this is what I got:

Ha! It's -23.8°C! It's -0.8°C colder than the setting! Yes! Perfect!

I'm impressed and happy with the purchase. The ref is strangely silent though. I had to place my ear on the side of the ref to hear it hum.

I just hope this ref would last me a decade.

Doc, aren't we past this stage already? By this time. I assume that all "tibay ng luma" appliances have already gone to heaven by now. Even if you mean by "luma" are those that are not digitally controlled, they don't make them like they used to before.

choice then becomes a question of the so-called tibay ng luma versus tipid ng bago.

From WhiteWestingHouse ba yun? to National to Panasonic naging ref namin.. Yung National buhay pa til now nasa 20 years na ata sya or mas matagal pa.. Tapos yung panasonic 1 year old pa lang.. hehehe.. Yung Samsung ng mga biyenan ko nawala na ang lamig (6years old) Mukhang yung board ang may tama.. At ang sabi ng tumingin sa samsung kapag board ang tinamaan it is better to buy a new one than to repair na daw dahil mahal magagastos ah hindi worth it..

^They call it in-built stabilizer which is basically an AVR. My model doesn't have this feature.

As for the energy consumption for this 11 cu.ft. Samsung Digital Inverter:

    It's rated at 1.05kWh/day.

    So, in 30 days, it will cost me 1.05kWh x P10.0041 x 30 days = P315.12915/month.

    Not bad.

A typical 11 cu.ft. frost free ref consumes about P700-P800/month.

With its initial price and the seemingly high rate of failure of its electronics, is an inverter type refrigerator really a better choice than a conventional one?

I feel like all that savings in power consumption will only be negated by the purchase price and repairs. Or worse, outright replacement.

"seemingly". So far, 3 of 5 people I know who have inverter refs have expressed dismay that their new refs had to be repaired. Pasok pa sa warranty but still. Parang lugi dahil pagkamahal-mahal na ref pero sirain. 2 are Samsungs, 1 is LG, btw.

"The adjustment this month brings the overall rate to P10.0041 per kWh from April’s P10.5477 per kWh, equivalent to a decrease of around P109 in the bill of a residential customer consuming 200kWh."
