sa napansin ko, ung nagpapamahal sa digicam are the lens, DSPs, zoom, etc., and not the megapixels per se

agree po ako sa sinabi ni sir cocoy_1, most of the el cheapo brands use CMOS, which isn't quite as good as whatever the branded digicams use(CCD ata?) mas mabagal ata ung CMOS e.

if all you'll ever need to get are rough pictures, baka pwede pa ijustify ung cheap digicam. other than that, save up na lang; entry level branded cameras aren't really all that expensive these days. wag kang magpasilaw sa megapixels, they're just a part of the whole picture

[quote=tebs]i just bought myself a 3.2Mp olympus camera. got it with almost 10k discount. hehehe. bnew old stock sya. worth it IMHO.

sweet deal sir! sa hidalgo rin ba to?

actually, tried using that before. tama si theveed, sama ng quality tsaka talagang pure plastic ang casing and sobrang gaang.

why not buy a Kodak C series? yung tig 5995? afaik 3.2 mpx yun. pwede na siguro yun muna.

Kodak, Olympus and Pentax will give you great value dude... Unless you're a "brand first, performance second" kinda consumer...

Sulit yung Pentax na waterproof hehe.

we're taking photos to last so i suggest to invest na lang for branded ones (nikon is one of them) instead of generics. remember memories are forever. those precious moments are once in a lifetime. since you came from ixus am sure you'll regret it once you compared your shots. my 2 cents.

Not all Taiwan-made cameras are lemons. If you want good quality Taiwan (generic) P&S DSCs, check out the following BenQ models: X600, E520, C500 and C800. The X600 a essentialy a repackaged Pentax Optio S6 DSC. The X600 received very good reviews. The X600 is considerebly lower in price (by a couple of hundred dollars) compared to the Pentax Optio S6 but this comes with a trade-off: a couple of features present in the S6 are not present in the X600.

It would also be interesting to note that by 2008, according to a past DigiTimes article, Taiwan DSC makers would have 50% of the global market share.

The X600 is interesting, how much does it cost? Though I'm almost set on getting a Casio Exilim S600, costs 18k.

It's quite ironic that Pentax are overpriced here in philippines when they're actually assembled in cebu. They cost 20k plus here.

    Check out buydig.com, Pentax S5z costs $152.

As for Olympus they use their proprietary xD cards, you better stay away from them.

i got the olympus c760 with 10x zoom. hehehe.. sweet deal. sa sm ko nga lang nabili. i was so tempted to buy it when i saw it. kaya ayun, nasa tabi ko na ngayon. :D mahal nga lang ng xd card compared sa other memories. buti na lang 3.2MP lang.

regarding CMOS and CCD, ang difference ata nila is yung CMOS takes a clearer picture pag flat ang kukunan mo (like paper-for scanning purposes); then yung CCD, takes good pictures of 3-dimensional things (like people, etc)

and almost, if not all, of the generic cameras will wow you with high counts of pixels. but be aware that these are INTERPOLATED only. this means that the camera "guesses" the other parts of the picture taken. what you should look at is the actual pixel count.

and for the zooming, it is better that you disregard, and also not use the digital zoom. it is better you just crop (or cut) your pictures.

I saw it sa GH one time (just can't remember the name of the shop). If my memory serves me right, it was being sold at around 12-13K.

Sir pang amateur shooting lang ba? o for keeps? kc kung amateur pics lang ung tipong idedelete mo din at the end of the day pede na ung generic. pero kung for keeps/friendster/wallpaper/scandals(oops) mas maganda branded..

Hidalgo yan ba ung tapat nung SM?

ok lang naman generic brands ng digicam. improved na ang quality nila although i never bought one or used one. i still like my 6.1MP KODAK DX. kahit luma na it still packs the punch!!!

xD cards are expensive, and you can't use they anywhere else but Oly and Fuji.

SD cards can be plugged into PDAs, smartphones, DVD players, in-car entertainment, whiteboards, etc. The leading digicam makers use SD cards.
