When I decided on the d40, in effect shifting for the first time to nikon after growing up with canon (ae-1, ae-1 program, T70, eos88), it was really for the now, and not for tomorrow. With the way dslr and photography as a whole is evolving, and it is developing at around 2MP per year, its not far fetched to say that soon, the dslrs we see now will be old, with new ones coming out every 6 months or less. Imagine, the d40X came out just 4 months after the d40 was launched.
20 years from now? We may be talking 4D interactive holograms, just like those in the movie Total Recall, and this movie is 10 years old. Hmm, wouldn't mind having one of those, where the girl appears in front of you, interacts with you, complete with sensation!
