Fafa Kimps, last time I checked the Sony DSC-R1 costs around P 65K. For that amount, you can get a very decent DSLR. Sorry to disagree with you Bossing Woodfire but I've tested the DSC-R1. While it does have excellent optics (Carl Zeiss ba naman kasi), it really doesn't match up pound-for-pound with professional DSLR that are out in the market. The pro series of Hasselblad, Mamiya, Canon and Nikon can run circles around the DSC-R1.

However: Fafa Kimps, if you're just interested in just casual P&S photography and if you don't have any plans in the future to take photography as a serious hobby and you only want a DSC with near-DSLR functionality, then the DSC-R1 is hard to beat. But really, one does not need an expensive camera to take real good pictures.

As far as your questions on CMOS vs. CCD, dati better ang CCD but due to new developments, yung newest gen ng CMOS is at par with CCDs.

I got a canon rebel xt from the states. less than 30k lang. and i bought a sigma lens 18-125mm from jt photoworld, phil. distributor. my next purchase will be an ultra-long telephoto lens hehehe

canon rebel xt/eos 350d is a good dslr for beginners coz a lot of pinoys own one. madali makipag-share ng info.

kung gusto mo talunin lahat ng existing photogs dito sa Pilipinas even if they have developed the skills ahead of you.

kimps i got mine from ambassador in v-mall for 40k. pwede ako bumili sa hk or china for around 35k kaso hindi international warranty. Kung okay lang sayo walang local warranty then its okay na siguro kumuha abroad. pero take note, of the three units i checked last sunday, dalawa ang may defect.

Yung una may fiber somewhere inside na kita sa viewfinder, second, may dot na parang fungus sa may viewfinder din. better check out the camera fully before you buy.

Also, get at least a 1GB CF card (mine mga 1800 bili ko) . Though some experts here recommend 2 or more 512MB cards instead. totally up to you.

Mas maganda outdoor shots mo at the same time, serves as dust seal and lens protector. Mga 900 ito.

Sayang kakabalik ko lang from china di pa ako bumili ng 4GB CF card, sobrang mura dun, as in almost half the price compared to prices here. Good thing is i might go back there by August.

    Items on my wishlist:

    Flash - 9000+
    IS Lens - 20,000+
    Lens Hood - 700+
    Extended eyepiece - ?
    Battery grip + extra batt - 10,000+

    Whatta gastos!

pagdating sa pro or semi-pro, for me, the best parin ang Canon EOS and Nikon d70, d50 models,..

Actually Sony makes the CCD sensor for the current Nikon D-SLR line-up. But that doesnt mean Sony is suddenly going to dominate the D-SLR world with their new release of their Alpha series. In fact, I dislike Sony products. Always too pricey and always proprietary.

    *****

For me the best D-SLR to get if you have the budget is the Nikon D200. IMO, the Canon 350D feels too small and light for a D-SLR, which, pardon me for saying, makes it feel very "cheap". For the same price, get either a Nikon D70s or D50, with the only disadvantage of being short of 2MP to the 350D. The Canon 20D and 30D are also very competent players themselves but their price is way too close to the D200 which makes the latter more attractive due to its more robust features. Btw, the D200 is not an upgrade of the D70/s but rather it is like a younger sister of Nikon's "pro" line consisting of the D2X/s, D2H/s, D100, etc...
