Lest you get the wrong impression -

The actual model has a much smaller 7" screen. The photo I posted earlier is that of the rumored 10" model. Hope this avoids any potential confusion.

At least Asus responds quickly to customer recommendations.

I dunno, people have shelled out more than P20K for something with a CPU speed of 206mhz, 40mb ram, 2gig storage, 2.2" LCD screen with built-in speakers and microphone, with wireless connectivity and built-in camera.

It might not fit your needs or wants but it is exactly what other people need. Don't underestimate the specifications against the whole package.

^^ Agree, I don't think buyers will just shell out P20K unless the specs of that product will satisfy their needs.

People who would be buying this product would have "portability" and "lightweight" high on their priority list.

while i don't think it's a typical "bang for the buck" gadget, it does have its applications. you don't need dual core cpus or 40gb of disk space when all you do is surf the net 90% of the time. one scenario i've imagined is if you wanna check your portfolio online, or buy/sell stock while you're at starbucks. even the lightest, priciest of the "full fledged" laptops aren't as compact and easy to carry as this one.

Unfortunately the rumors about the 10" model have been confirmed by Asus to be false, even if they did showcase a unit at the Computex Taiwan show back in June when they announced the Asus Eee PC.

    http://www.eeeuser.com/2007/11/14/ru...8g-are-false/-

Rumors About 10″ Eee PC 8G Are False

Many websites (engadget, gizmodo) have been reporting over the last several days that there will be an upcoming ASUS Eee PC 8G model with a 10″ screen. The rumors seemed to start with a news post found here on a German website. I contacted ASUS to find out if the rumors were valid and this was the response:
We will have 8G with the same form factor and 7” screen size as the Eee PC 4G now.
There are no plans for 10” at the moment.
Eee PC 8G expected MSRP is $499.99 USD.

Also, the photo showing the 10" version has since been confirmed to be a photoshopped image. Of course, this does not mean Asus will not come out with a 10" model. Chances are they will - but I doubt if it will look anything like the one in the photo since the maximum size that can fit in the current form factor is a 9.5" LCD. However fitting an LCD that size won't leave enough room for the webcam, the speakers, and the inverter, all of which are presently located around the bezel.

    +1,000,000.

Let's see... my Mom and Bro regularly spend 35k on cellphone PDAs... so what's 20k for something that's more practical and useful for mobile net and entertainment?

Before this came along, if you wanted a notebook PC, you had to shell out 50-100k pesos for one... truly ridiculous numbers for something so small and weak. 20k, when you consider it in this light, is truly, mind-bogglingly cheap.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

from the available units locally, yes. But I think certain models abroad have built-in dialup modems since there seems to be an allocated port just beside the RJ45 LAN jack-in port on it's left side.

    *juntzo,

I connected my Asus Eee PC to my home network (Linksys WRT45GL router, mix of Win XP, Vista, Ubuntu) without any problem. I am able to access files on both my server and on the shared directories of the other computers. Haven't configured any printer yet though Xandros has a utility for configuring printers.

*biboy28, the 4G and 8G models do not have internal dial-up modems. Not sure about the Surf Models.

    *juntzo,

My son was able to print from his Asus Eee PC to the network printer (HP Laserjet 1000) via wifi. Hope this helps.

Got my Eee PC las 12/08 too... I was actually thinking of buying the HTC Touch Flow, mainly for portability on internet access, being a phone will be secondary coz I got a phone already. Damn HTC Touch Flow is at 29k... so decided to get the EeePC (18k)... am happy with the performance being at low end spec... able to connect WiFi easily.
Fast boot up and shutdown too! Brought this to US when I travelled last week, and the white guys can not even get hold of one kasi in demand sa US... muntik ko na benta sa kanila 'yong unit ko, hehehe
One thing that I appreciate with the EeePC is its built in webcam is very clear.
Battery life with internet browsing I can get 3 hours.
You can also upgrade the data storage capacity with SSD (solid state disk)... check n'yo na lang sa newegg.com magkano isa ng internal SSD... hehehe So I opt to use my external 120Gb 2.5" HDD for storage, and had an 4Gb SD plugged all the time in its built in card reader.
I tell you its fun using it.
Pag ginamit ko na 'yong IBM Laptop ko, considering 14.1 inch na 'yon parang sobrang laki na ang dating, hehehe

I want to get an EEE PC too mainly because it's cheap you won't cry when you lose it. ehhehe.

But I'll wait for the 10" 16GB version due to be released this Jan/Feb for $400-450, which will be sold locally for about the same (20k).

I find the screen resolution lacking in width, you need to keep on scrolling sideways when viewing webpages. Choosing between an Eee and iTouch for portable surfing.

the iTouch can only do "portable" surfing if you have an open hot spot in the area. Unfortunately those are few and far inbetween.

The Eee Pc can use wifi, standard R45 lan, 3G or GPRS via celfone connectivity. Not to mention you can actually reply to your yahoo mail, not just read them. hehehe
