The MSM (including most of the left) here are so gullible I quit tuning in to them. Let's face it. There is no real journalism left. Only tabloid crap.

September 9th, 2019 11:16 AM #593So...Americans are not bothered that POTUS willfully and erroneously claimed that DORIAN will hit Alabama? Or that he came out with a statement saying he invited the Taliban to Camp David but canceled because "they sometimes kill people"?
Yeah, mainstream media probably makes that s#it up.

the US right now is totally polarized
there's far right and far left
there are no centrists anymore
the US is one impeachment or election result away from civil war

1. There were several computer forecast models that showed Hurricane Dorian tracking enough to the west so that parts of Alabama may have been affected. It's always a guessing game when it came to tropical systems. The CiC cannot influence the actual forecast. But, if he requests the worst case scenario and the computer forecast models supports it? Why not? Also, computer forecast models can vary wildly on each run. So, while we're briefing a forecast based on the old run, other forecasters may be viewing the new run and see something different. Then we'd get a lot of clarifications. It happens all the time. Yet, the MSM conveniently ignores it.
2. The Taliban group that was supposed to hold talks with the Afghan government claimed responsibility for the recent bomb attack. What else was Trump supposed to do? Let the talks continue?
Heck. Back in 2005, our little weather team (actually, I did) forecasted Hurricane Katrina will track much farther west two days earlier than what the National Hurricane Center was saying. But, we were near the West Coast and didn't carry much weight with those on the East Coast. Two days later? Guess what? They said the same thing I was saying at that conference call. I still have that in my yearly performance report and is one of my favorites.Last edited by Jun aka Pekto; September 9th, 2019 at 03:36 PM.

September 9th, 2019 03:54 PM #597Well this is the thing.
1. Is it just as accurate now for POTUS to show hurricane tracking with a sharpie instead of the actual forecast model? It could have saved him a lot of criticism because he'd be using what the National Weather Bureau uses. Bear in mind, this is a President whose virtue is not telling truths so his credibility is below sea level.
2. I'll answer you with another question: You really expect the Taliban to stop killing people while the US hosts them for peace talks? Get real. They view the US as infidels and a foreign power occupying their country. Prior to that, they've committed various atrocities against their own countrymen to advance their radical Islamist views and consolidate power. THEY WILL NEVER STOP KILLING. Period.

I'm not sure what the circumstances were behind the scenes except the stress levels for the forecasters must have been off the scale. But, have I made real-time changes to my own (projector) Powerpoint slides with a whiteboard and dry-erase markers? Yes. Several times. it didn't look pretty. But, the aircrews I was briefing were going into harm's way. What I briefed can make the difference between them flying safely or getting shot at and crashing into a mountain. I always make sure they have the latest info even if it means shoehorning them in.
It also is still worthwhile to send overtures and attempt talks that may deescalate the conflict. Take Pvt. Berdahl. The Taliban didn't kill him and he was used in that prisoner exchange which also showed the Taliban can deal.

All I want is one international news outlet that is impartial/objective and only reports the news (like the old CNN was back in the 1980's). Nope. Not gonna happen, certainly not with US news outlets. This sucks. I'm dismayed at ratings-driven news outlets.
