Trump can stonewall any unfavorable ruling that he wants, in other words he can bully the WTO, the US has the means to do so

let's see how Trump deals with pushback from Republicans

retaliatory tariffs by trade partners are specifically made to hurt the Republican base

    Trump's zero-sum world view

US trade deficit = making other countries rich

    unfair!

    haha

something Trump doesn't realize is the US needs to run a trade deficit with the rest of the world coz the US is the reserve currency issuer

other countries need dollar savings (dollar reserves) so they can pay for imports and USD-denominated debt

those dollar savings are invested in US govt bonds

the large trade deficit allows the US govt borrow money from the rest of the world

so the US can keep its carrier battle groups running among other things

so Trump wants to wipe out the trade deficit?

    that's great

other countries will have less dollars to invest in US govt bonds

the US govt will have less money to borrow

less money to pay for its superior military

Trump doesn't realize he's accelarating the need to replace the dollar as reserve currency

if the US steps back from being the reserve currency issuer, the world will decide to use some other currency

    baka sabihin maka-China ako

it may not be the RMB

    it may be the Euro

    it make be a cryptocurrency

i don't care about American exceptionalism

US number 1 status in the world rests on the dollar and the dollar's #1 status is not permanent

they have the strongest military coz they can outspend any country in the world on defense coz they can borrow unlimited amount of USD

that's the privilege of a reserve currency issuer

the British pound was the reserve currency before it got replaced by the dollar

so Trump's mission to wipe out the US trade deficit will cause dollar shortage

the rest of the world will have no choice but to find some other currency to trade with

the US may be the most powerful country in the world right now

but the US cannot beat math

if there are fewer overseas dollars available to invest in US govt bonds, their interest rates will go up

too much supply of bonds, too few buyers

China and US are frienemies..theyll contend domination but will continually be trading with each other. The truth of the matter is they cant live without each other

The US needs chinas cheap labor for profitability, and china needs US consumerism to have money to lend the US. That is why the US take russia more seriously than china

You are correct its the math of overcoming US GDP with chinas billion population, the chinese isnt going to be dominating anytime soon

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...azard-ceo-says
U.S. isolationism could undermine the dollar’s status as the world’s reserve currency, Lazard Ltd. Chief Executive Officer Ken Jacobs said.

“To the extent that we have unilateral foreign policy and unilateral trade policy, we’re sort of tempting the world to find an alternative,” Jacobs said in a Bloomberg Television interview aired Thursday. “Probably the greatest demonstration of soft power is the fact that the U.S. has the reserve currency of the world.”

The U.S. dollar has been the international currency of choice for more than half a century because of its stability in global markets. That keeps a lid on borrowing costs in America and helps fund the U.S. budget deficit as trading partners place their dollars in Treasuries. Threats to that status are still far off, Jacobs said, because the main currencies in Europe and China are unlikely replacements.

Still, “there’s enough technology out in the world today with cryptocurrency and changes going on that you can imagine, if you let your mind wander a little bit, that something becomes an alternative in the future,” he said.

Didn't I just posted an argument?

You said you are not pro-China, I said that is not true because of the previous posts you have made in other threads.

Anyone, please correct me if I am wrong.

Having it controlled by one country or a group of countries with one ideology is a weapon of sort... Best to have a world currency free from any politicking.

    below is my whole post

i was making a point that Trump is accelerating the need for the world to find another currency to replace the dollar

and honestly don't know what currency that will be

i would have insisted on the RMB but i didn't coz i see the RMB's present limitations

but of course, being one of my haters, you ignored my whole post and focused on that little thing i said "baka sabihin maka-China ako"
