    I wonder if our OFW dependent economy will be able to survive this one... For sure export and tourist dependent countries are going to get burned badly.

    economies will experience hits to both demand side and supply side

    supply -- China factories are either shut or barely open

    if your supplies come from China sooner or later your old stock will run out and there won't be new stock for some time (whether it's finished goods or intermediate goods or capital goods)

    demand -- if people stay home (voluntary or forced quarantine) economic activity slows down

    if people don't go to work, no income, no spending, no demand

    kahit may pambili kung wala mabili

    like ung face mask madami ka nga pera pero wala mabili

    if the shut down continues later on more and more goods disappear

    So far, their government still has it under control. That's their advantage, being under authoritarian rule.

    It's more frightening for us if this pandemic lasts for a long time. Our country's source of income are from tourism and overseas workers. Tourism is taking a big hit right now. And if Ofw deployment is severely limited. Lots of people will be jobless. Add to that, we rely on imports to feed our population. Food prices might skyrocket. Hunger leads to rioting.
