Yes bro. MVUC is already bundled with annual registration. They plan to increase it by a whopping 90% staggered over 3 years.

Tito's comment below the article is interesting.

    Oh Joey.
    it could be worse.
car ownership privilege could come down to a 5-year raffle.

    but hey!
balking at a 3K lto annual fee, when one owns a 0.7 milling buck car?

    heh heh.

Totally missing the point doc. Collectively, car ownership is already heavily taxed as it is. And a lot of motorists own older cars worth 100K or less. 3K is a lot of money for them.

that's three thousand pesos a year. three hundred pesos a month, give or take. nine pesos a day!
if the car owner can't afford that, then i doubt car owner's ability to keep his car road-worthy, to the detriment of everybody else.

from computer fee of 170 pesos, LTO is already making millions. pero kung titignan mo yung mga gamit nilang PC eh mas maganda pa yung mga nasa computer shops. saka ba napupunta yung na collect na MVUC? parang may ibang budget naman everytime may mga road projects ang DPWH.

Like I said before, best to look at the government added costs to car ownership and usage COLLECTIVELY.

what are the government-mandated added costs to car ownership, when you purchased that used car for 100K only?

Bottom line, it's unnecessary addition.

tax money is the government's blood.
resistance to taxation "is expected", if it is perceived that the tax money is not being used "as intended".
but what will happen, if everybody suddenly decides not to pay taxes?
    really.

    problem: too many cars

solution: make car ownership more costly

    discourage car ownership

this will hit those rising to middle class palang

the intent at indirectly limiting the cars on the road is there.
but i feel, it needs more teeth, to be truly, palpably effective.
but because i am addicted to my car, i hope government does not go to... extremes.
    heh heh.

feeling ko madaragdagan lang ang mga unregistered vehicles plying our roads (na marami na to begin with)
darami rin ang kita ng gobyerno

    ^^^

more teeth but you hope the govt doesn't go extreme?

making registration more costly will already hurt the pockets of the rising middle class

    want something more palpable?

ban registration of older cars (like 20 years old?)

Actually, the banks should be blamed for the increasing number of cars since they made it easier procuring a car with their low down-low monthly schemes. I know of quite a few people who buy through financing, pag nagsawa na, ipinapahatak or sell it to someone else through the “assume balance” way then get another car.

car ownership kasi is an aspiration of people moving up in life

    from commuting nagiging car owner

can you deprive people of that right?

yan ang problema ngayon facing the govt

the govt can do it indirectly by making car ownership more expensive

any further than that they're gonna run into stronger resistance

There are so many cars in the 2nd hand market. Maybe there are more new cars being sold than pre-loved being bought. Right to own is not deprived. Yung karapatan nila hindi rin pinipigilan. They just have to be more smart. Ugali kasi ng pinoy is image. Won’t get caught driving an old car.
