In the election, the ABC economic classes helped to carry Duterte over to the winning column. Initially, I was incredulous over his support from the A class, whom I thought would be more discerning and find him abhorrent.
I thought the elite would find Duterte way beneath their social standing and thus keep away from him. But that was not the case in the May election, they supported him.
But upon reflection, it makes sense why the rich supported Duterte. The rich wanted someone to do the dirty work of eliminating society’s bad elements.

All things being equal, nothing wrong talaga.
But things are not equal with this current administration.
Malacañang media trained in Beijing... Panatag Shoal destroyed by the singkits... Nine-dash-line... Militarization in West Philippine Sea...
There is more at stake here than airing Chinese shows.
(oh yeah, I watched those Chinese Kung Fu shows also every Sunday dahil wala pa namang cable TV noon. So we're of the same generation)

^ The shows are being aired on PTV4, right? Isn't PTV4 a government-owned station? Color me paranoid but it may be pushing the government's agenda, the same way mainstream media push the left/right leaning agenda.
*vinrem
A lot of countries have their own channels dedicated to showcasing their culture, pushing for their political agenda or to promote their interests in general. Those are even shown internationally.
Notable ones include CCTV from China, Fox News for the US Republicans, RT for the Russians, NHK for Japan, etc.
I don't see what benefit a Philippine government owned station airing Chinese shows would bring to Filipinos.
But i do see how that would benefit the Chinese. Now why would our government spend our resources on promoting anything that has to do with the Chinese?
I don't have any idea what they're airing on that channel though, I just assumed mga telenovela like those Koreans, you can enlighten me though, di ako masyado kasi nanonood ng local channels whenever nasa pinas ako except for bubble gang sa GMA pag may time.

Afaik same as chronicle, shows are scheduled to start in August. IIRC there was an interview with the Chinese ambassador about those shows and he did say something to the effect that it was so we could better understand China.
Aside from being the information arm of the government, state TV could just stick to promoting our own culture and identity.
Ano tong photo of "Welcome to Philippines Province of China" banner na nakasabit daw sa footbridges making the rounds on social media?
Who put those up?
