Before you guys start fighting over this, let's get the side of the other party as well.

Jumping to conclusions before getting all the evidences out in the open is well just premature judgement really and just leads to a trial by publicity (yet again).

The evidence by the anti-ZTE/NBN groups is just the testimony of one man, namely JDV III. The evidence must be built up properly if this is complaint is real and should be addressed in the proper venue.

the fishiest of the something fishy here is that the whistle blower is part of their group. it's like Jim carrey's fun with dick and jane movie. ginamit ni alec baldwin yun ignorance ni just-promoted carrey to bankrupt his own company in front of biz TV.

if this fiasco continues on, the deal will be reset. and the already spent money, lost.

there is a new tactic in politics today. you use the people, the media, the issue to stop a deal half-way. para hindi na ma-account yun una. we're all just puppets in this kaya kayo na lang makilaro.

the check and balance here are the timely delivery of services by our leaders. kaya nga naimbento ang term na "checks and balances" kasi hindi nga kaya implement perfectly ang by the book system. check and balance are just like a sampling point in science kasi you can't test/experiment/observe all. yun lang yun.

his exactly the kind of mind-set most of the middles classes have.. Just let them do it no matter what the cost as long as they can deliver the goods even if its overpriced. The danger in this is we are condoning corrupt practices at best; what will happen then is if they can get away with it, then they can get away with another.

yes, if they get away with it, they will get stronger and do it again. also, if they fail, they will also try it again until they succeed. what's the diff?

here is however, my own version of the difference:

if they get away with it, the deal is done and the services are still delivered.
if they fail, the deal is cancelled and we all have nothing to look forward to

MANILA, Philippines -- Romulo Neri, former economic planning secretary, admitted that Commission on Elections Chairman Benjamin Abalos “offered” him an amount in exchange for giving the approval on the national broadband network project.
Neri made the admission Wednesday during a Senate inquiry on the questionable NBN contract that the government had forged with the ZTE Corp. of China.
When pressed about how the offer was made, Neri quoted Abalos as saying, “Sec. meron kang 200 dito [Sec., you have 200 here].”
Neri, who claimed to have a “clear recollection of that incident,” said Abalos made the offer at the Wack-Wack Golf and Country Club in Mandaluyong City.
When asked for his comment, Abalos said initially that he refused to comment on something that Neri himself was not sure of although he accused the former Cabinet official later of “lying under oath as far as I’m concerned.”
Neri said after the “offer,” he thus instructed his staff to be “careful” about its assessment of the project.
At the same time, Neri said that he encouraged Jose De Venecia III, son of Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr., who had also expressed interest in the NBN project, to pursue his proposal because he liked the businessman's idea of bringing down the cost of telecommunications in the country.

Neri noted that the broadband cost in Japan was 22 cents per one megabits per second; in the United States, 11 cents per Mbps; and in the Philippines, $20 per Mbps.
He said that private telecommunications companies in the Philippines were not serving the interest of the public.
Neri also said that on the advice of his lawyers, he mentioned Abalos’ offer to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in a phone conversation.
“Abalos offered me P200 million,” Neri recalled as telling the President.
Neri said the President had told him not to accept the bribe.
But Neri invoked “executive privilege” when asked if he had further discussions with the President on the NBN contract, citing the Supreme Court decision on Executive Order 464, which allows Cabinet officials to refrain from answering questions on “conversations with the President.”
When questioned for his reaction to the offer, Neri said he was shocked because “I'm not used to being offered bribes at medyo malaki [the amount is quite big].”
He said he supposed it was P200 million “given the magnitude of the project...Siguro hindi naman P200 or P200,000.”
The latest scandal to hit the Arroyo administration has caused concern among investors and posed a fresh challenge to Arroyo, who has survived two coup attempts and two impeachment bids on allegations of corruption and cheating in the 2004 elections.
Amid fresh coup rumors, Armed Forces Chief Hermogenes Esperon Jr. said last week some soldiers were disturbed by the bribery allegations but assured that any destabilization attempts have been neutralized.
In last week's testimony, De Venecia III, founder of the losing bidder for the project, Amsterdam Holdings Inc., also accused Abalos of offering him US$10 million to withdraw his proposal.
De Venecia III had also implicated the president's husband, Jose Miguel "Mike" Arroyo, saying he had told De Venecia III to "back off" from the bidding.
A lawyer for the First Gentleman, Jesus Santos, said Arroyo had only reminded De Venecia III that as a relative of a government official he should not get involved in government transactions.
The Supreme Court had halted the broadband deal pending a resolution of separate petitions by the young De Venecia and a provincial vice governor questioning the legality of the contract.
The ZTE Corp. has expressed disappointment over the suspension but has denied any irregularities.

Ang loan for the NBN deal ay galing sa China. sinasabi ng gobyerno na ung nagpautang ang pwedeng pumili sa contractor ng deal na yun, so sabi daw, pwedeng wala ng bidding. Pero ang masama dito, we are still paying for the loan. So dapat dumaan sa bidding process.

At tungkol naman sa allegations sa corruption, dapat ituloy ang investigation para malaman kung sino talaga ang may sala. Yes, may sinasabi si JDV3, pero kahit sino naman pwedeng magkalat ng ganung chika. Sana mas maganda kung mas maraming evidences ang ma-ipresenta at dumaan sa tamang proseso.
