March 7th, 2012 10:29 AM #12Yup, you have a point there. But its concept for bench marking or base model on further strip down versions. That's what future concepts are. The problem on my part is I dwell too much on the criteria of DOE (aesthetics, creativity, innovation, etc) and forgot the manufacturing side.

That is where the problem started. Concept vehicles tend to be fantastic to the eye but usually impossible to build and impractical or impossible to use for it's designed purpose.
DOE is looking for a shortcut in the designing process. Hence the contest. They were looking for a design pattern that can be directly brought to fabrication & manufacturing that solves the issues of ergonomics, layout & mechanics. Something that can be done with simple shop tools.
Honestly, with something as small & compact as the e-trike (and attached requirements), it will difficult to innovate the aesthetics because ergonomics and mechanics will dominate the design.

March 9th, 2012 02:48 PM #16Body approves e-trike project
The Investment Coordination Committee-Cabinet Committee (ICC-CabCom) of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Board recently approved the Market Transformation through Introduction of Energy Efficient Electric Tricycle (E-Trike) project.
The project will provide 100,000 electricity-run tricycles to replace aging and two-stroke gasoline-fed units.
The E-Trike project targets local government units (LGUs) of Metro Manila, Boracay in Aklan, Puerto Princesa City in Palawan, Cabanatuan City in Nueva Ecija and Davao City.
"The Philippines would benefit in the utilization of electric vehicles to reduce the country’s dependence on price-volatile petroleum fuels. It will also reduce the carbon footprint of the transport sector in Metro Manila and LGUs in the country," said
Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Cayetano W. Paderanga, Jr.
A carbon footprint is a measure of the amount of greenhouse gases produced daily by individuals through burning fossil fuels for electricity, heating and transportation, etc.
The E-Trike project, spearheaded by the Department of Energy (DoE), has an approved cost of P21.5 million that will be partially funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The ICC CabCom’s approval of the project will be endorsed to the NEDA Board for its confirmation.

Did I understand the press release correctly?
The 100,000 e-trike units will be funded by P21.5M fund?
If so, each e-trike will only cost P215.00 ???
Did someone miss a decimal point somewhere?
