All my friends na nagdriving school with a manual but eventually were given automatic cars, hindi na marunong magdrive ng manual.

It takes a few years of driving a manual before you can master it to the point that even without driving a manual for several years, you still know how. But if you only drive it for a few hours, as with all driving schools, makakalimutan mo yan once you get used to an automatic.

^Really, they may forget the feel at the beginning when they return to manual, but if you really learned from manual they should be confident they can drive a manual

They ought not to forget what a clutch is for, because knowing the difference between the two helps a lot in handling manual and automatic cars

Sa timpla lang magkakatalo sa umpisa

^no it's not. I agree with jut.

Maybe because mas naiintindihan how the car works? O sanay mag multi-task? Clutch, kambyo, gas, manibela sabay sabay

Not in my experience. Majority of my friends can't drive manuals even if their lives depended on it, and these are people who went to driving school with manual cars.

Again, if you consider 10 hrs of driving school experience vs. 5,475 hrs (3 hrs a day of driving in 5 yrs) of automatic driving, makakalimot ka talaga unless you have mastery in the first place.

Kaya maganda sa isang family meron at least isang manual trans kahit the rest matic. Mapapractice mo once a week mane-maneho. Pinakamasarap talaga yung 5seconds hanging na mataas na no need maghand brake.

Sa matic after an hour nangangalay lower left body ko. Hinahanap yung movement.

So its the driver not the car

Thats amazingly DUMB, expect the unexpected

Of course it's the driver. Cars don't drive themselves. What's the point of that statement?

    To recap:
    - A forumer asked whether to go with a manual for his first car to develop sufficient mastery with a manual before settling with an automatic for his succeeding cars.

    - You said just go to driving school to learn a manual then get an automatic car, to get "the best of both worlds".

    - I said that it doesn't fulfill the objective because a few hours of driving school with a manual is insufficient to give you mastery of the transmission. You will easily forget it once you start driving an automatic exclusively.

So back to the original question of the OP - yes, get a manual for your first car if you want to be proficient with it. It's what I did - my last 2 cars were manuals. I'm getting an automatic for my next car, but I'm 100% sure that I won't forget how to drive a manual because I've driven countless miles with a manual already.

Took me a little above 5k km bago ko nagamay yun braking without down shifting. part of it i guess eh dahil sa abs, lalo ako nahirapan tumantya mag brakes sa AT

It could spell the difference in a life and death situation

Knowing first then enjoying both worlds of automatic and manual driving

You don't master the skill of driving a manual just by driving for 10 hours. Simple as that.
