My heart bleeds for the victims.

Just really makes you wonder what's wrong with society today, for those things to happen and it's becoming alarmingly more often. When you had religious fanatics (i.e. Waco) or terrorism (i.e. Oklahoma bombings), we could still see the basis or motives of the groups behind it but to randomly loose it, get some guns and shoot up a school, it's just... i dunno.

    The kid was a wacko.

Family friends in Newtown also described the young man as troubled and described his mother Nancy as very rigid. "[Adam] was not connected with the other kids," said one friend.

Unrestricted gun control/ access to high powered assault rifles. Just add a psycho with a senseless motive equals a massacre. The killer was a son of one of the teacher who he killed earlier at their home...

Worst is that they got access to high powered firearms unlike here in the Philippines, then add increasing number of amercan wacko in it and you have these tragic events.

I was about to post this same incident here, only because right now they are debating about gun control/ gun ownership on CNN. Just like to ask our members here about gun ownership/ gun laws. Do we limit, or do we allow?

They must limit it. I have seen some episodes of Doomsday Preppers and I can't believe it that these nutters have unrestricted access to high powered firearms. You add to the mix the high incidents of bullying in school make things even worst.

In reality, more gun control = more crime. It means innocent civilians are just more likely to be defenseless. It's the law abiding citizen who are at a disadvantage because law breakers don't care about gun laws. You can't expect the police to protect you all the time.

Perfect example is Switzerland. Everybody has Sig SG550 series of rifles.

fyi for criminals there is no such thing as gun control/gunban. just today in china a man went on a stabbing spree at a school, 22 kids were hurt as well. goes to show you that no matter what you do, if a person decides to kill, it doesn't matter if he has a gun or not.

most owners of legally acquired guns in the philippines are law abiding citizens (i am one of them). we do have gun control here in the philippines. only citizens of legal age (21 and above), without any criminal records (need police and NBI clearance), nor have any pending case before the courts (you need a court clearance, must not have any criminal or civil cases filed against you), passed the psycho test (although nalalagyan itong provision na ito, corrupt ang nagbibigay ng exam in connivance with the gun dealers) can purchase a gun. it is also limitted to only 1 pistol of no more than 9mm in caliber, and 2 long firearms of the type of either shot gun, rifle of maximum caliber .22 MRF or WW2 vintage rifle of .30 carbine caliber (M1, M2 or M3 carbine). a citizen may own 2 pistols or pistol of above 9mm caliber if he is a member of a gun club. in addition a member of the military reserves can own an assault rifle (yan sabi ng friend ko, reservist sya at meron siya, take this information with a grain of salt). also yung 2 long firearms dapat member ka din ng gun club. this requirement (gun club membership) assumes that being a member of one instills discipline on the gun owner.

it is the unlicensed guns that are used in commiting crimes. yung mga holdaper, riding in tandem, hired killers, and our favorite bad guys the local politicians' private army and the jueteng lords' goons, walang license mga yan. sila ang salot sa pinas.

Both this school and the movie theater shootings were via legally obtained guns.

Wait and see if Obama will be able to provide the political will to do some changes, to put a stop on these senseless killings.

For our country, both responsible gun owners, and non gun owners should agree to fix this corruption in the country's gun control.

One way maybe is to hold the dealer and psycho test conductor, criminally liable, if the person they sold the gun to / psychologically cleared for gun ownership, performed a criminal act with the gun they acquired through them?

    RIP to the victims
