IMHO this is the worst shooting in US schools so far. It may be lower in body count vs the virginia tech shooting but the victims here are kids. Sad to see this happening but it seems the US (with so many guns around) have so many trigger happy people.

I have just talked to my boss in US regarding this incident and it was horrible, and to think that it was just few days from the Mall shooting incident just makes it crazy.

    RIP to the victims.

My heart bleeds for the victims.

Just really makes you wonder what's wrong with society today, for those things to happen and it's becoming alarmingly more often. When you had religious fanatics (i.e. Waco) or terrorism (i.e. Oklahoma bombings), we could still see the basis or motives of the groups behind it but to randomly loose it, get some guns and shoot up a school, it's just... i dunno.

    The kid was a wacko.

Family friends in Newtown also described the young man as troubled and described his mother Nancy as very rigid. "[Adam] was not connected with the other kids," said one friend.

Unrestricted gun control/ access to high powered assault rifles. Just add a psycho with a senseless motive equals a massacre. The killer was a son of one of the teacher who he killed earlier at their home...

Worst is that they got access to high powered firearms unlike here in the Philippines, then add increasing number of amercan wacko in it and you have these tragic events.

I was about to post this same incident here, only because right now they are debating about gun control/ gun ownership on CNN. Just like to ask our members here about gun ownership/ gun laws. Do we limit, or do we allow?

True, sa atin na lang mga kriminal may mga baril, pero sa civilian pahirapan kumuha ng ptc.

    Not true.
    1. When ordering online or by mail, the weapon will still pass thru a FFL. The gun will never be shipped to a buyers home address.
    2. Ex-cons with felony offenses can never own a gun.
    3. Yes, gun shows sells 2nd hand guns to people but still needs to go to a legal process to register the ownership transfer. Waiting period depends on which state you reside. In most cases, 10 days.

BTT: as a parent, I condemn such unspeakable act of violence. I was heartbroken after learning about the incident. All I hope is that the authorities should provide armed security at all schools to protect the children.

Man held for Facebook threat to California schools
    Agence France-Presse
    6:42 am | Tuesday, December 18th, 2012

LOS ANGELES—California police have arrested a man for allegedly making threats on Facebook to “multiple elementary schools,” including by referring to the Connecticut massacre, a spokesman said Monday.
Kyle Bangayan, 24, was arrested Sunday at his parents’ Los Angeles home, where a cache of nine weapons including rifles and handguns was found, as well as ammunition.
No arms were found at Bangayan’s own home in Pomona, some 30 miles (50 kilometers) east of Los Angeles, said LA Police Department spokesman Richard French. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was also probing the case.
“The threats, which did not target specific schools but did reference the Connecticut school shooting from last Friday, were posted on the social networking site Facebook,” he added.
“Also found… at the residence where Bangayan was arrested were nine firearms, including rifles, a shotgun, handguns, and ammunition… A search of the suspect’s Pomona residence didn’t yield any weapons or related evidence.”
Another police spokeswoman, Venus Hall, said the threats were made to “multiple elementary schools,” but gave no further details of location or numbers of targets.
The alleged threats came as the United States reels from an elementary school massacre in Newtown, Connecticut on Friday that left 20 young children and six adults dead.
The shooter, who is also believed to have killed his mother at the house they shared before embarking on the school massacre, took his own life as police closed in.

The people haven't finished mourning yet and this POS is making death threats?! Torture him then send him to jail for the rest of his miserable useless life. And just in case he turns out to be Pinoy, our government should not use a single centavo to help this scumbag.

Obama backs bill to ban assault weapons: White House
    Published on Dec 19, 2012
    6:05 AM

WASHINGTON (AFP) - President Barack Obama on Tuesday threw his weight behind a bill to reintroduce a ban on civilians owning assault weapons, in the wake of a gun massacre in an elementary school that shocked the nation.

White House spokesman Jay Carney said the president would support a law proposed by Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein to prohibit the arms, defined as certain types of semi-automatic firearm with removable magazines.

"He is actively supportive of, for example, Senator Feinstein's stated intent to revive a piece of legislation that would reinstate the assault weapons ban," Mr Carney said, when asked what Mr Obama would do about gun control.

Mr Carney said Mr Obama would also support any move to ban high-capacity clips - magazines that hold dozens of rounds - and close the so-called "gun show loophole" that allows unlicensed individuals to sell guns privately.

Kaya di masyado nababalita at kung mai balita man di masyado pinapansin.

Madali kasi baril sa US kaya yung mga nut case at ala hurumentado sa kanila imbes na itak ang bitbit, semi auto, kaya nakakarami ng biktima.

Guards are very rare here in the US. Even banks doesn't require them. Most guards aren't even required to be armed.

One thing i guess, it's because law enforcement is doing what they're supposed to do which is patrol the streets and help citizens. Unlike here, people always have to rely on their own to get what they need that's why private guards need to be hired, etc.
