agree... pero I have friends who own franchises of TGP, Generika and Uptown Meds, business will not survive if maliit ang income.

Yes, on paper, they are the equivalent of their branded counterparts... but aside from settled generic manufacturers like Unilab, Myra Pharmaceuticals and a few more, I don't patronize them. There have been many stories of maintenance medication (particularly of drugs made in a country that I won't mention here) not working... despite the patient religiously taking them as prescribed.

It's like small local diagnostic labs vs. hospital laboratories. Technically, they're the same, but while hospital labs are more expensive, big hospitals can field better equipment.

The good thing with these generic medicines is that they give people, particularly the cash strapped, a choice though.

    hindi naman lahat.
    there are always exceptions.
and i like to imagine, there are more exceptions here, than non-exceptions.

    also,
some drugs are sole-membership in their class, i.e., there is no other choice.
thus, while some may suspect collusion, the truth is, there is no other drug to collude for or against.

drug reps also have a usefulness.
they advise the physician, that the new drug they first heard about in their last medical convention, is now available in the local market. it's not collusion; it's introduction.

but there is collusion. in any industry.

Mom ko public health ang advocacy so when the Generics campaign first came out in the 90s (or late 80s?) she was really pushing for it, even our family. My Lola (Dad's Mother) got mad with my Mom on why she would encourage my Dad to take generics for his hypertension My lola always wants the best for her only son I never take generic drugs esp those that are free from the government. Sa Makati masipag sila mamigay nyan but none of us take it

Sa US akala ko maganda generic drugs nila pero when I had palpitations the last time I was in the US, my cardio (online consult) prescribed a medicine for me (forgot) Since my Tita was a nurse in the US, nagawan niya paraan to get me generics for free. Wala naman effect. When I got home to PH, I bought the brand my cardio got me and then I got better.

    caveat:
"there are fake brand names, just as there are fake generics."
my meds are generics if i can help it.
    and yes, "placebo effect" exists.

independent diagnostic labs versus hospital labs.
if i were an independent diagnostic lab manager, i'd be very careful, as i'm a stand-alone. i have no pader to lean against, during downswings.
if i were a hospital laboratory manager, i'd also be very careful, as i do not want to be the cause of the hospital's downswing.
once word gets around, it is very difficult to get rid of it.

Malaki kasi ginastos nila sa marketing.

For example neozep forte, wala diffeence sa bio flu same unilab gumawa.

But since nasanay na tao na pang sipon ang neozep kaya they came out with bioflu para ma capture din nila market ng nagka flu. It's one and the same.

Last week lanf while waiting for my turn sa mercury magbasabasa ako ng mga naka display.

Yun buscopan venus na for cramps during period eh same lang pala nun buscopan plus yata yun.

Glorifies medreps. [emoji23]

would you have strong belief in a medication that is advertised as a panacea (a cure-all) for multiple ills?
or would you tend more to believe in a medication advertised for flue, and another medication for sip-on?
    yep, that's advertising!

if some physician genuinely believes that not all brands are created equal,
who are we to say he's wrong?

    i wonder,
do pharmacies keep accurate tabs on what brands the physicians prescribe?
how do the drug companies know who patronize them?

Have you even taken generic medicine? I've tried it at wala talagang effect, iba pa rin talaga branded.

Generalizations are dangerous, particularly in the absence of the scientific method.

    Example:

Basta Toyota siguradong di ka madadaya.
Pag yung emissions test galing Japan, siguradong maasahan.

    other "dangerous" generalizations...

basta gradweyt nang XXX, magaling. basta gradweyt nang non-XXX, 'di magaling.
there are always exceptions, folks. and considerably more than one may imagine.
and i am a strong believer in murphy's law.
