My friend arrived at MMC before 2 pm (the doctor's start of clinic hours) The doctor arrived at 3:30 pm. It's 4:30 pm and until now my friend is still waiting . Ako yung naiinis para sa kanya![]()
I also had those sentiments before. It all changed when I somehow observed the day-in-the-life of my son's doctor.
While my son was confined, i can tell that his doctor barely had any time to sleep as she was constantly making rounds to her patients in one hospital, or traveling to another hospital to do the same.... whether it's 2PM or 2AM, she would just show up to check on my son. She would also spend time conferring with other doctors or associates for particularly difficult cases. I mean, 24 hours is simply not enough for them.
In one particular instance, my son was in a rather bad state after a surgery. His doctor stayed with us for over 2 hours until he stabilized. I would think that the next patient would've been fuming mad.
On top of that, she also conducts clinic hours a few days in a week, which usually takes place after making her morning rounds. It was my pet peeve before that when she was late, I would start questioning in my head why we even needed to book a slot if she couldn't even follow her own schedule. Well, now I know why she's been late this whole time.
I think this may be due to the very large deficit in the number of medical practitioners in-country... particularly specialist doctors.

I want to commend my mom's doctor sa Cardinal Santos...
Never late for our appointments, pati tests namin were on the dot
Highly recommended!
Only 2 issues against the hospital...
yung mga kainan nila is nasa gilid ng steel parking and walang ATM ng BPI
They are simply not good at time management ... due to the nature of their work ... they can do better and it's going to cost more for patients ... and few people are willing to pay more ...
doctors can be good time managers, but the patients probably won't like it.
they can limit per patient consult to only 10 minutes, which, personally, i find extremely deficient.
history and vital signs pa lang yan... wala pang physical exam...
one way for doctors to limit patient load, is to charge higher.
i'd certainly love it... kaya lang, baka ako matamaan nang kidlat pag-uwi ko sa init nang araw sa tanghaling tapat.
oh... here and there...
apologies, po. i wish to remain unanimous as can be.
the folks who make good in the profession of medicine, are not necessarily the ones with very good memory. pang-exam lang yan.
in fact, some of the most successful MDs in their field, were once the class goats.

They just don't care about other people's time. Mentality is patient need me.more than I need them.
Meron emergency, understandable. Pero wala na yun palusot na ganyan.
Gusto kasi nila mahaba na nila para sulit punta nila sa clinic. Tapos dramatic entrance dahil dami na nagaantay.
Superiority complex meron mga doctors that's all to it.
Kaya mabuti lumabas yan bell kenz anomaly. They're nothing but a glorified medrep lang pala. [emoji23]

My 80 yr old dentist charges quadruple the usual rate and he gives at least 30 mins per patient a day. He is NEVER late. His schedule is always full because his secretary prints his schedule and I can see it from the dentist chair haha
MD naman I choose doctors that have NO HMO or with the least HMO. Also, I go for older established doctors (referrals of Dr APS)
May time na tamad ako to go TMC/SLMC so I just went with the hospital closest to my house, nakakapikon yung Dr na always late tapos hambog pa yung male secretary. Ganyan na ganyan, dramatic entrance
Yung cardio ko before was in his 80s na, suplado sa med rep yun, he doesn't need their incentives/freebies/suholThe best pa when I want a medical certificate for SL, he asks, How many days do you want? :PYung older doctors nga yung Rx ko ilagay pa sa name ng Mommy ko para daw maka SC discount
Yun younger doctors ngayon kaasar e, masyado by the book.

Older doctors have less to lose ... nothing much to lose since past retirement age ... same goes with old lawyers ...
older doctors do not mind "losing".
they are satisfied with what they already have.
we must understand the difference between "losing" and "declining".
Kabwisit talaga naghihintay sa pila sa doctors to the point that a lot of patients nagse-self medicate na. Sobrang sayang sa oras.

para sa akin... ang pinaka-nakaka-inis
is that foreign doctors/dentists (and their secretaries/assistants) (and as I mentioned earlier, Cardinal Santos doctors) can manage their time
(based on my short experience, Singapore, Japan, HK and Sydney).
appointments are made and the secretaries will call you way in advance if something happens.
in the event that a surgery is not going as planned, no choice but tatamaan yung appointments na may conflict, pero patients in the afternoon will definitely be informed and rescheduled.
I wonder if this punctuality issue posted by the OP is more a Filipino thing than a vocation thing.
