I remember a dialogue from Godfather II that may be apt to this discussion. Hope you are familiar with it.

"Michael Corleone: [about the unrest in Cuba] I saw an interesting thing today. A rebel was being arrested, and rather than be taken alive, he pulled the pin on a grenade he had hidden in his jacket. He killed himself and the captain of the command.

Guest: Ah, the rebels are lunatics!

Michael Corleone: Maybe. But it occurred to me, the soldiers are paid to fight; the rebels aren't.

Hyman Roth: What does that tell you?

    Michael Corleone: They can win."

Patriotism is not something that is forced on a person, especially a strong-willed person. No amount of ROTC will guarantee patriotism from an individual. ROTC only ensures that the government has a group of citizens they can "enlist" at short notice to do whatever it is they want in the name of national interest.

    My two cents' worth.

IMHO, it still best to be knowledgeable to the kind of leadership and system that the military has in order to have a more prepared citizenry.

Yes we will probably never win a war against the other claimants of SCS except maybe Brunei. But then again even in domestic necessities, we can use military type of discipline and way of leadership to make quick and efficient actions.

Ordinary civilians (without ROTC or CAT training for that matter) won't know what military time is, what we mean by fall-in, shore up the ranks, map reading etc. they ask to many questions before following. The military trained people may not be as good, but they know what obedience is and thus mobilization, action and reaction would be definitely better.

The biggest issue of hazing and corruption can be addressed imho. Those are problems that imho lang naman does not outweigh the advantages of gaining some military knowledge and know what real hard discipline is.

Part of the journey to minimalist lifestyle. Can hold about 7-8 cards and a few bills. 2 atm, 1 company ID, driver's license, health card, RFID card and a metal comb/multi tool.

that is why, when it's time to pay, i turn to wifey. her wallet is fatter than mine.

if you have lotsa cash in there, you don't need cards.

Hmmm let me see, 3 atm cards, 1 credit card, driver's license, company Id, health card, pagibig loyalty card, umid card, 2 shopping membership cards, timezone card, initial D gaming card, and a red colored card. I think I unnecessarily bring cards I don't often use.
